I am looking at getting a pair of good binoculars. What is the difference between the Leupold Wind River Pinnacle Binoculars and the Leupold Gold Ring Binoculars? I see that the Pinnacle binocs are cheaper and armored whereas the Gold Ring binocs are not armored, but cost more. Also, do the Gold Ring models have variable magnification instead of fixed magnification? Thanks.

It’s a lot easier to manufacturers to built good fixed magnification binos than variable magnification ones. And binos with fixed magnification usually produce better quality images. Large frontal lens also produce better quality images.

Don’t know how much you intend to spend, but if I had to recommend a great value binos I would tell you to get a Nikon Action 10x50 EX (extreme). I’ve had (and still got) several binos and this one is awesome, even at night when hunting boars. I would buy them over and over again.

You probably can buy them cheaper from ebay. I got mine from ebay.uk, because we don’t pay taxes when importing from EU countries.

My intended purpose is hunting. I want to be able to see clearly at ranges of up to 800 yards. I also want something truly waterproof, fogproof, durable, and reliable. Thanks.
