i hunted in heavy rain two days this deer season and many more in the last 10 years, with this scope with no problems at all. rifle is a two year old rem 700 aac in 300 bk and the scope is a 10 year older 1x4 verix11, that has been hunted just about every season since it was new on other rifles from 6mm to 45-70. i think i paid 229.00 for it new, so that comes out to 22.90 a year. if you smoke thats about 4 packs of a year and if you drink that about 12 bottles of beer a year, who can,t afford a good scope. the rifle that was shot at the beer can end from 90 yards ( has a 2.5x8 verix 111 and has been hunted in heavy rain several times already) from a decent rest aiming at the center of the can. if you think i,m a fan boy for leupold, you would be right. eastbank. No doubt Leupold makes excellent products. I have more than on myself.

On the other side of the coin, I have a Tasco World Class Plus on a Remington 700 muzzle loader that I bought in 1997. I zeroed it in 1997 and haven't had to adjust it since. It has hung on a hook at my treestand in the rain for hours at a time and never leaked or fogged....However, today's Tasco is not the same company.

Dummy, you could've gotten by just fine with a $50 Walmart Special! ;)

You make an excellent point about the cigarettes and beer. IMHO, what folks can and cannot afford is usually a matter of choice. Most who whine about what they can't afford are wasting money on something like cigarettes and/or beer. Or maybe that new big screen TV, smart phone or new car was more important to them. It's easier to say, "I can't afford it" than to change a bad habit. Many are just unwilling to sacrifice and save over time and just make do with whatever they can "afford" right now. Some will go to great lengths to justify it to themselves and others.

Consider yourself lucky......or maybe I'm just unlucky. I had several older Japanese Tasco's give up the ghost on me.

Damn! I've got a World Class 4x with a rattling loose objective lens.

I do think the older Pro Class pistol scopes were actually pretty good. Much better than most the rest of their stuff. Got my first about 22yrs ago and a couple more last year. Thinking about doing a torture test aboard a SRH .44Mag.

i quit smoking when i was 28 and i was 73 in nov. last. smokes went from .30cents to .35cents a pack and i quit, i haven,t ditched beer quite yet, two-three bottles a month. when some one says they can,t afford some thing, what i hear is they don,t want it bad enough. i have several other brands of less expensive scopes and use them on .22,s and sweetners to help sell or trade a rifle, but i know if they go tits up they go to one of my grandsons who likes to see whats inside things. there are many other scopes that are as good, or even better then leupolds. but i have been with leupolds for a long time and i,m not going to change any time soon. if your scope does what you want it to and is with in your price range and you can live with their warrenty you are set, and thats how i feel about leupold scopes. the african hunt for this eland was a rough hunt that took three days with several falls that the rifle and scope got bumped pretty bad and the cz-550 .375 H&H and 3x9 verix11 took it in stride. eastbank.

My Leupolds have only hunted in the snow. No rain yet. They are excellent scopes that have never let me down.

I have a Leupold lens pen with a cleaner on one end and a brush on the other. That is all I have ever used to clean the glass.

For the rain do you do anything to the glass besides clean it?

i use a anti-fog agent on the lens along with good lens caps(butler-creek) and they realy help. eastbank.

You overlooked donations to charities and churches on your hit list.

Solid performance, per expectation! Glad your little scopes still serving you well. Its weird how attached we can get to somethings, that scope might well end up being one of those things :p

Leupold's customer service is the best. I left my Leupold Binoculars on top of my truck cab while glassing Antelope. They slide down the windshield bounced off the hood and crashed into the desert sand.
They were an optical wreck. They resided in my cave for 2 years. I mentioned it to a Leupold customer service person while discussing a scope problem.
He ask me to return them. I did Leupold repaired and return them no charge. Now that kind of service is hard to find these days.:)

I sure think Leupold is the best bang for the buck in the optics world. I dabble in some of the European and Asian branded options but hands down my most trusted glass carrys the Leupold brand.
Some rate products by customer service, I rate by how infrequently I need to use it.

I saw a Vari-X III that was dropped hard enough that it dented the objective bell, pretty big dent, the scope was still zeroed when he checked it. I was pretty impressed.

I own both Leupolds and other scopes, and I think a lot of times if you look around you can get better glass in the same price range (coughMeoptacough), but if I knew I was going to be lost in the wilderness and couldn't afford scope problems I'd have a Leupold with me, I've been around them enough to trust them implicitly. My grandson hunts now with a Vari-X II that I bought before his mother was born. Just starting out, with a young family, the only way I could afford the scope was to put it on lay-a-way and pay it out as I could. It was the best investment I ever made as far as hunting gear goes.

I have nearly all Leupolds. Plus their binos. As stated, customer service is better than incredible.

Another brand to consider may be Burris. Supposedly their service equals Leupold. I have an older Signature Select that has incredible glass

My first Leupold was a birthday present back when I was in 9th grade. 3-9XAO full size.
It was replaced by Leupold..........it was bad from the factory.

I bought a new 4-12X AO in the mid 90's...............it was bad. Leipold fixed it and it was fine ever since.
Got a used 4-12X AO on my 700, no probs.
Bought a used 12X varmint and a 10X AO with cpc..........flawless.
Had a 3-9X reg that was perfect. Well, make that two of them.
4X compact, used.....still running strong on my old 870 slug gun.
2-7X on a .35 rem rifle, great combo.
old M8 4X is on my RSI
2.5-8X is on my 10/22

Had a 4-12X Redfield rev.....leupold made. and four of their 2-7X revolutions. No probs.

So 16 Leupold made scopes, half of them new.............and of the new.....25% of them needed fixed.

My luck aint so good! LOL

Must admit, that if the scope was good from the start, I never had a problem. Fixed/replaced stuff ran fine afterward.

They are using the Redfield Label. I bought a 3X9X40 Redfield. It did not work out of the box. They repaired it and returned in under 7 days. :)

Leupold for me too. I've had them in the rain, snow, freezing rain, never one fog up. Only ever sent one back and it was messed up when I bought it used. Looked like it had a spider in it, don't know if it was a cracked lens or what but it came back like new.

I am needing to find out what the warranty is on the rangefinder. My Leupold rangefinder is acting all goofy.

I've owned quite a few Leupold products over the years starting with a VX-II in '93 and still have five Mark 4 scopes and a Mark 4 spotting scope. I had to send a Mark 4 3.5-10x40mm back a couple of times in '09 I think due to large black particles on the reticle but overall I've had a positive experience with their products and their service. I think Leupold makes good products but so do many other manufacturers. I have four Zeiss scopes on some "thumper" rifles that have been 100% reliable in various conditions ranging from -20°F to 90°F and have yet to find out how their customer service compares to Leupold. The same goes for the four scopes, a rangefinder and a pair of binoculars from Vortex that have been perfect from day one and continue to be so. These days I don't find myself automatically looking at Leupold first when it's time to buy an optic. Ultimately, I don't think any optics company has a monopoly on quality or customer service.

Unfortunately, Leupold electronics don't carry the same lifetime warranty as optics. It's a fixed time period, which if I recall, is only a year. Check the booklet that came with it to be sure.

Mines acting funny too, and I'm past the period.

PS I just checked and its 2 years.

yeah disappointing mine was only used two years and very little at that and never in the rain. Not sure I'll ever buy another Leupold in that department.
