Have my sights on a Leupold Mark AR 3-9x40mm T2 <linked here> for my 5.56 M4.

Any thoughts or anyone who's used it? I found it for $299 on amazon.

The only downside I see is that all the accessories look over priced.

It's probably an okay scope. I believe the glass is VxII level. Leupolds are decent scopes but usually not the most bang for the buck.

Midwayusa has a
$30 off $200 and a $60 off of $400 coupon.
They also sell the Mark AR scope for $299.

There's also the Nitrex line of scopes on clearance

I guess this is going on a carbine, so the Nitrex linked above is probably too big.

Thanks,
checked it out, looks pretty decent, tried to look up web reviews of that model. seems decent for the price. atblis, have you tried this particular Nitrex scope? is it worth the purchase? and i may be blind but i can't see dimensions for the length of that scope.

and yes, it's for a carbine flat top.

I took the plunge and bought the Leupold Mark AR with the duplex reticle, debating if the mil dot is better or not? Going to put it on my LMT MRP.

Cheers

rikman, please do let me know what you think when you get a chance. i'm in no immediate rush to get a scope, but it'll be my first purchase after the x-mas shopping b.s.

thanks in advance for that review once you get it up and attached.

What do you mean? You don't have to buy anything else from Leupold. The rings and such can come from anybody.

the rings i'll get somewhere else for sure, the attachments I was referring to were the flip-up covers for the lens and the Mark 4 Anti-Reflection Device which they say is threaded on the Leupold site to fit their scope. I'm gonna have to email them and ask if it accepts un-threaded accessories...

Report

I setup the Leupold Mark AR on my LMT MRP with a Rock River rail mount. Setup was easy. Nice to be able to see targets again with my old eyeballs.
Mind you, I am a total newbie to scopes. I zeroed it out as best I could at 100 yds. I am attaching pics. I had some spread out groups and a few tight groups, I think it was more operator error than the gun.

Be safe
Rikman

thanks rikman, it helps a lot to finally see what this thing looks like installed on a rifle. I was having a hard time trying to picture how much real estate it would have been taking up.
I finally found a review of this scope , http://www.gunblast.com/Leupold-AR.htm.

After reading how happy he was and now that I've seen it in action, I'm sold. I'll be ordering mine asap. I'll come back in and post pics once I get it up and set. but don't hold your breath it'll be after the new year.

Thanks for the help rikman and atblis

If anyone is still interested, I guess a family member was paying attention to me this year as I actually got something I wanted:). My brother got me the mil-dot version, tho I didn't care which I got.

Took it out last week using some first run reloads I was itching to try out, they were 55-Grain simply because that's what Luepold advertised the scope is made for. I also tried some POS cheapo PMC rounds I got at Cabellas for $6 a pop. Since my range only goes to 100 yds. I didn't get to have too much fun, but I bore sighted in and was on paper in 2 shots, and on point in about 10 if you include me letting friends give it a shot.

Anyway, I was putting holes inside of holes almost every shot afterwards, except for when I allowed my shooting to get sloppy. Of course I got all the way home before I thought about taking pics of my now complete set-up and the targets.

So next time I go out, I'll make sure to snap some good pics and post'em back here. I'll be spending some time this week knocking out some more reloads.

rickman, I didn't even notice till just now, but I bought the same scope mount you did, rockin the RRA.

If anyone cares, this scope is pretty darn nice. Can't beat it for the price, the online price anyway, free shipping at amazon!
