I have a remington 700 adl .243

I seen midway carries a leupold quick detacheable scope mount for them. I was wondering how they worked because I want to make this like my always rifle. It has open sights and I would like to be able to quickly use them. Will this mount hold zero when the scope is reattached?

also, who makes the best 3x9x32 scope for under $150? I want something tough and compact.

Kind of an uber scout rifle feel is what I am going for...

There are two Quick Release systems that Leupold manufactures for their scope rings. One, a newer design, uses a Weaver(-type)/Picatinny rail base. These have levers on the sides of the base of the rings that tighten/loosen the floating portion of the claw that clamps onto the rail. The benefit of this system is that it is universal. It can be used on any Weaver(-type)/Picatinny rail base made by any manufacturer. - QRW

The other is a proprietary system that has a stud as the locing extension of the rings instead of a claw. The stud mates into a hole in the scope base which has the lever that locks the rings in. The stud of the ring has a notch cut into the side of it. When it is placed into the base hole, there is a locking pin that rolls into the notch and locks the ring in as the lever is rotated. - QR

I have both a a few of my rifles and prefer the QR. The QRW system I have on one of my rifles doesn't detach as easily as the QR. It seems the claw of the QRW is near its maximum travel meaning the base is probably on the wide side. The throw of the levers requires more rotation to operate than the QR levers. But, that's just me.

KC, I recently purchased some QD rings also, by Warne. Working on a scope for them soon, and then it'll be mounted on a Savage Scout rifle. You don't have to use Leupold rings if it's going to be mounted on a Picatinney rail, there are other QD rings avail also. The prices vary also, from under $30.00 (IIRC) for Burris to much higher for Warne, Leupold, and others. Most are avail at either Midwayusa.com or Natchezss.com. Good luck.

I have several of the QR and the QRW, Yes the QR is quick to detach and also preserve very well the point of impact. It is also nicer looking.
But for my serious rifles that have to take anything the QRW is better.
The thing is that I always carry a extra scope set in the same rings, for insurance, if my rifle were to fall and the scope get damaged, I will remove the scope by turning the lever in the QRW rings and replaced with the extra scope.
But if the QR should be use, if very probably that the fall will also bend out of shape the post on the QR. rings. When this post is upset, it is impossible to remove the scope (and rings) from the rifle.

I tried QRW bases and rings on a .375 H&H... The rings backed off under recoil. Might work OK with a smaller caliber. I didnt like the levers on the rings either, they stuck out too much.

well, I think a .243 only has like 14 lbs of recoil or something...

Sounds great guys, I think I will go with the older more durable system...

QRW...

These are the Leupold QR mounts fitted to a Brno commercial 98 in 8x60S. They are the next best thing to claw mounts.

I have the Leupold QRW rings, and bases mounted on two 700P Remingtons. One a .308, the other an LTR in .223, and they work fine.
If I was going to get real serious about real long range shooting, I'd get a different setup, with a 1piece 20 MOA base, and matching rings(Badger, etc.)but for the moment, these work great.

Mount the rings so the levers are on the left side if it's a right handed rifle, and when you put the rings on the bases, push them forward so no play exists, then tighten the lever.
It's all in the instructions.
