I have a little used Leupold VX III 4.5-14X AO 40mm with 1" tube that I want to sell. I paid $500 for it new and am wondering what to ask for it in it's current condition. It looks new. I have the original box. What would be a reasonable price to put on it? I looked on several sites and cannot find similar scopes. I'm thinking $400 would be fair. What do you all think out there?

I'm not an expert but I would from what I have seen other people selling for and what I would pay for that I think $400 is a bit high. If it was a VX3 then that is reasonable but being the older version maybe around $350 ish.

They are actually selling for $400 on ebay, so, minus communist fees, you net about $350. A good 'shipped" price for a money or postal order payment would be $350-$375 in my mind.

The VX-III was replaced several years ago with an improved VX-3. It has now been replaced with an even more improved VX-3i. You may very well get someone who isn't familiar with the various generations of Leupold scopes to pay $350, maybe even $400 with the AO. But if I were going to spend $350 on a VX-III, I'd spend $350 on the newest generation of VX-2's and have a better scope.

Lots of guys out there don't mind buying the older VXIII's. If anything goes wrong with it, you can still send it to Leupold. Since there are 2 newer versions out, many of the time the scope will simply be replaced with the newest version depending on the issue.

Either way, there quite a few in the 'sold' category on Ebay for the 400+ mark, identical scopes. Shouldn't have an issue moving it.

This is the type of help I need. Thank you all. I have VX,II,III, 3, and just recently a VX3i. Just don't need this one and it's on a gun I'm selling. Thinking about taking it off and selling it separately. I think I'll lower the price to $350 to get it moving.
