I'm planning to send 2 of my Leupold scopes in for reticle replacement. Given that my 70 year old eyes are not as good as they used to be, I'm thinking about heavy duplex (replacing fine duplex). I would like to hear from guys out there who have experience with heavy duplex reticles. What are the plus and minus issues for heavy duplex. It might help to say that the 2 scopes I'm talking about are a VX-II 4-12X AO used on a Savage 22 Hornet for prairie dogs and coyotes. And VX-III 4.5-14X AO used on a Remington 700 VLS .243 for prairie dogs, coyotes, and deer. I'll appreciate your responses.

I like the heavy duplex but like the German #4 even better. I had Leupold put a German #4 in a VX-3 that came with a heavy duplex. I don't know that I'd put even a heavy duplex reticle in a varmint scope though. And at 14X the heavier reticle might obscure a prairie dog.
