I am looking at a 308 rifle and was curious about optic options(scoped rifle with back up irons). Is this a good scope option on a FAL? Are the QRW mounts good as well? Will this fit on a b-square dust cover?
Thanks

First of all, get a better mount. The B-square mounts aren't the best out there. Get a DS Arms, ARMS, or WAC mount (if you can find them) all under $100 bucks.

Get med to high rings as the rear bell of the scope has to go over your rear irons (unless you get one of the flip down iron sights).

I've got the DSA mount on my STG and it's solid. Dealer price was $68 when I bought it, don't know if it's changed in the past few years. Depending on how large an objective you choose, you might not need the high rings. If I were gonna put a scope on mine, I'd just remove the rear sight aperture entirely, otherwise the scope might be high enough that you couldn't get a good cheek weld. I know you wanted both, but it's something to consider.

I've got the ARMS #3 and my friend has the Tapco mount with stripper clip rails. Both work/look good and both are better by far than the B-Square. DO use a buffer as the FAL's can be hard on scopes. Being a Leupold, you shouldn't have any problems but, personally, I'd want to protect my investment!

If using a "normal" objective size (not something "uber-tactical"), you shouldn't need high rings. The fixed rear sight can be a problem on the metric FAL's putting dings in eyepieces if you're not careful. Possible fixes others have used/attempted are aftermarket units or even Inch sights.

depending on your scope's eye relief the rear sight may not be an issue. i put a leupold M8 6x42 in medium QRWs (which have worked great for me) on a DSA mount and it sits well forward of the sight.

Thanks for the thoughts. So I should get a DSA mount. The Leupold V-x2 will be okay? Are the QRW rings alright?

What is the best way to have back up sights that are tighter? Buy a new insert that fits the dovetails in the lower? Or is a play in the rear aperature normal and not a big deal?

Wow! That's a beaut of a rifle! Is that a DSA? What are it's specs(which model)? What kind of accuracy?
Thanks guys
