I was just on the Leupold website and didn’t see any VX-R’s. Does anyone know if they have been been discontinued? I’ve been a Leupold fan for a long time but over the last six years they’ve discontinued most of the scopes I like.

They still have space reserved on their site so my WAG would be that following up on SHOT there will be new model introductions for the VX-R line-up that have yet to be incorporated into online info.

Yeah, the only scope I actually lust after is a VX-R Patrol with Fire-Dot.

Do I have to make a buy now?

Has anyone gotten a definitive answer from anyone at Leupold?

Well, looks like OpticPlanet is screwing around. When I bought it off eBay (new), the listing said they had more than 10 in stock.

Then I got a message from HAL saying they were having trouble fulfilling my order and it would be delayed ...

They offered to substitute another scope for more money - grrrrrr ....

Which is why I will only buy from Optics Planet as a last resort. They take your money on an item they show as being in stock, then send you an Email the next day saying they are out of stock and they’ve already dinged your credit credit card. This isn’t hearsay, it’s happened to me on multiple occasions, enough times that I believe it’s systemic.

The only online dealer I hold in more contempt than Optics Planet is Cheaper Than Dirt.

I’ve had better luck with them lately and here and there the prices are great. Mostly however, I see inflated MSRPs with “discounts” that are at times higher than manufacturers’ actual MSRPs.

They actually did me a favor years ago on a bait and switch; a scope in fact. It was an ATN, not night vision type, just standard. Showed in stock, but wasn’t so I waited.

I called a different vendor a week or so later who listed the same scope and he told me he would sell me one, but not in good conscience as it was absolute garbage. Instead he recommended one from a company I had never heard of back then, Sightron. Very glad I took him up on that deal and cancelled my order from Optics Planet, who still didn’t have it in stock.

I’m glad for you that it finally shipped. Not happy mind you, but glad. I’ll be happy for you when you purchase a custom rifle and you receive it.

Check out the Trijicon Credo

Cabela's has the VX-R Patrol 3-9x40mm with Mildot Firedot for sale right now for $399. I just purchased one to put on one of my hunting rifles.

They still have a few 3-9x patrols at nightvisionguys.com

I have 6x 3-9x TMR Patrol, 2x 1-4x SPR Patrol , and 1x 4-12x Custom Shop Green TMR Patrol...they are probably the best bang for the buck lifetime etched reticle red dot you can buy.
