I have settled to get a marlin in 357 but I'm not sure which one. What it the main difference between the Cowboy models and and 1894c I have also seen an 1894c ported as well.

I like the short barrels versions but I hear the cowboy versions have better triggers and are tuned better. Will the longer 20 inch barrel produce better accuracy or velocity in a pistol cartrige?

thanks

Marlin 1894C has a plain ole round 18.5" barrel; the Marlin 'Cowboy' variant has an octagonal ?20"? barrel; the buckhorn sights on the Cowboy variant might be a bit more traditional looking; I don't know about ported barrels...it really wouldn't benefit since recoil is nil to begin with...the Marlin 1895 Guide gun in .45-70 used to be made with a ported barrel...not sure about other larger calibers (.444 Marlin; .450 Marlin)

You'll probably be happy with the 1894C. It's a very slick gun. I doubt you'll lose much (if any) velocity or accuracy with the 1894C's barrel.

The basic 1894c is compact, handy and fun to shoot. Also costs less than other models. Unless you plan to get into some kind of serious competition, don't mess with success, get the 1894c.

The octogon barrel makes it barrel heavy and porting is not needed for the 357 mag or, in my opinion, any of the pistol chambered rifles.
The 1894C should be just fine, some have problems with 38 spl out of them.

Go for the 1894 Cowboy in whatever caliber. There's just something about that octagon barrel that makes it my favorite gun to shoot.

I got the Cowboy version. I shoot CAS and I liked the octagonal barrel. Shoots great, my favorite rifle. My buddy got the 1894C. It shoots just as well. Either is fine, with the Cowboy you pay extra for style.
