I have a Marlin 1895 45-70 lever action stock rifle. I plan on using it in a Cowboy Silhouette Rifle Venue where the silhouettes are at 50, 100, 150 and 200 yards. My questions are: (1) What grain bullet do I use? (2) What powder and how many grains should I use?

Sierra's Rifle and Handgun Reloading Data (Fifth Edition) only shows a Marlin 45-70 with a 300 grain HP/FN bullet. I could use this data, but what would be the best powder and how much should I use. Thanks for your help.

Marlin 45-70
RCBS .45-300-FN shooting light loads of 16 grains Unique and large magnum pistol primers. That load chronos about 1350 fps.

RCBS 405 gr with 34 gr of imr 3031

Also give Badman bullets a call. They shoot competion like you want. Maybe the can recommend which of their bullets works well in your gun.
