I have been wanting another lever action since I sold my winchester 94 back in 06. and now I want a another one but, I am not sure which one I have looked at the 94's and the marlin and the mossberg but, I am not sure I like the marlin action the best but, I hate the pistol grip stock but I am just not sure right now. Just looking for some advice thanks

I'm a big fan of the Rossi 92, if you're looking for something in centerfire pistol cartridges. I've owned several in various chamberings and have not been disappointed.

Since I like the ballistics and flatter trajectory of high power cartridges, I have Browning BLR in 270 and 308 (both in straight grip stocks)

I am looking for one in 30-30. I really like the browning blr too but it out of my price range right now. I am more of a winchester fan I think the action of the marlin is better as for the mossberg I ain't heard alot about it thanks

There are about five different configurations of the 336 that have been produced with a straight stock, with the most common being the 336 Texan. There was also the 30TK, the Glenfield 30GT, the 336D, the 336SDT, the and the 336LTD. There are a couple more than that, but those come to mind. Any used Marlin made prior to the Remington buyout would be a better option IMO.

The Mossberg 464 is a solid gun. It feels like a Winchester 94 in your hands, but the action is more similar to the Marlin, so you can mount a scope easily. The walnut stocked models I have seen had really nice wood too. I personally would be hesitant to buy a new Marlin unless I could thoroughly inspect it first.

Haven't shot one of Mossberg's offerings, but I have had several Marlin lever actions over the years. Current Marlin in "foggy's artillery locker" is a 20-year old Marlin Mdl 30AW in .30-30

Despite some of the negative stuff i've read about Marlin, I have always have wanted one. I went to Basspro last week and ordered the XLR in 30-30. I'll let you know how it shoots when I pick it up on the 21st

Anotherc vote for an older Marlin, but for newer guns I too vote for Mossberg! 464:cool:
I have one in 30-30 and I love it....

Henry makes some good rifles too.

Lateck,

+5 Votes for Marlin, because the first one worked so good, had to get some more!
All of ours are pre-reciever safety, some 22 rimfire, some 30-30, some bigger. I've had a couple of Winchester lever guns, like so many products, the best ones are from years ago, and getting more expensive every day. If you might want a scope on it someday, Marlin will work a bit better as well.
A bit of time spent looking would probably get you an older 30-30 in good condition for a reasonable price. That may be changing, if the bad reviews keep coming from buyers of the recent (Remington) production guns.
The 30-30 has been so popular, for so long, there's still quite a few on the dealers trade-in racks.

I was not a fan of Marlin 336's until I was blessed with one from my FIL when he passed. I found the 336 shoots better than I expected using off the shelf Rem 30-30 ammo. It will shoot an easy 1 1/2 inch group all day at 100 yards. It did not care if I shot 5 rounds, a mag full or the entire 20 round box. It still shot into a 1 1/2 inch group which works well for hunting at 30-30 ranges. I'm sure I can beat that with reloads. The 336 bolt is easy to take out to clean from the chamber end.

A friend of mine talked me in to shooting silhouette with a requirement of a center fire lever gun. I had the trigger reduced enough on the 336 to be useable when fired from standing. So far the winner has been a Win 71 in 348.

I like the looks of a Winny 94 and will have one someday.

Well I think I found what I been looking for its a marlin 336 in 35 rem for 250 so after thankgiving I am going to see about it thanks.

That is an AWESOME price for a decent 336 in 35 Rem. I just gladly paid $349 for one made in 1972 with a 4X scope on it. I love the 35 Rem.

I think it is a fairly new one it has the micro grooves and if I can remember Has the crossbolt safety which I like. I am going to bore light it before I buy it looks good too. How is the 35 remington vs the 30-30 thanks.

With the .35 you have a bigger, heavier bullet, so it'll hit harder. The .35 Remington is the mildest of the .35 rifle calibers, so you can expect it to be great for deer with proper shot placement, and will most likely work on up to elk and black bear. Very versatile gun, well suited to brush country.
