Anybody use it?

I just ordered my first box of the stuff, and I don't really know what to expect.
I have one buddy that says it is the best thing since smokeless powder and another that says it makes his 30-30 pattern like a shotgun. I'll be shooting it in a .450 Marlin. I am anxious to group it and see what it'll do a hog. I am also impatient that's why I'm here asking what to expect from it.

I also noticed in the .450 it is auctually slightly slower than the 'standard' 350gr Hornady custom ammo.

I've shot it in my Browning 1885 in 45-70 and my Super Blackhawk in .44 Mag and both guns loved it. Very accurate in both. I've shot deer with it with the expected excellent results.

As have I and it loves it. The only thing I dislike about it (in 45-70, DK about other calibers) is that the brass is a bit shorter than standard. :)

This stuff is great!! I shot it in a Marlin 336 30-30 and was very impressed. It makes a 30-30 an honest 200yard gun for deer hunting. I compared it to some older Remington Soft Points I had and it went from a grouping of about 5-6 inches at 100 yrds to about 2 1/2inches with the LeveRevolution. It's the only stuff I shoot in a 30-30 now. I'm willing to bet you'll love it as well.

In my receiver sighted Marlin 336 (1950 vintage) leverrevolution .30/30 shoots tighter groups than the gun is supposed to be capable of.

I have had mixed success with Leverlutions. My 1895 Guide Gun and Cowboy love them @ about 1 inch groups at 100 yds. I had a Marlin 336SS that made 4 in groups with them at 100 yds. It would print 1 inch groups with 170 Winchesters. I am not an expert but it is worth to not that 99% of current manufactured Marlin 45-70's have the same twist rate (GG,SS,CBY,XLR) while the 336 XLR which was made to showcase the 3030 leverlution has a different twist rate than their standard 336. 45-70 Leverlutions are awesome!

Bought some last year for my "old" Marlin 336 in Rem 35 cal. Went to the range and fired for effect. Made a couple of adjustments and bingo.... The Hornady Lever-E ammo was like a heat seeking missile. Ok, maybe not quite
but on paper it looks great. Very happy. :)

The answer is, it's not that much different from other ammo, better or worse. It oughtta be pretty accurate however in most rifles - It's Hornady.

I've used it in my Marlin 336 in 35 Rem. It is accurate and has performed well on deer and hog.

I'd also love to see what the stuff can do in my GP-100, haven't been able to find much locally.

I taken a few hogs with one shot kills through my GP100. LeverRevolution is good to go in my book.

Shooting this product in two different Marlin 336s' in 35 Remington and another in 30-30. They do chrono faster than regular factory loads and have proven to be more accurate in all three guns. I do believe you will need longer barrels (22" to 24") to wring out their true potential, but they do shoot tighter in my 20" barrel Marlins'.

I've taken two deer with the 35 Remington loading and terminal performance was impressive. I'm satisfied with the overall performance and can't say anything bad about them at all. They pretty much do what Hornady claims.

My only complaint is the short brass (what to do about reloading it?)
SO, how short is it?

Regardless, reloading it would be just like reloading any other 45-70 brass.
Keep it separate form your normal length 45-70 brass and adjust the dies for it.

All you would need to do is adjust the Exp/Bell & seat/crimp dies down a little.

I use the .45-70 in my 1895G for hogs and the .308 Marlin Express in my 308mx for just about everything else.

My wife has been using the .30-30 in her 336.

Every round goes exactly where we want them as long as we do our job, and I haven't actually had to track anything that I've shot with the 308mx yet.

Can you tell we like lever guns?

LeverEvolution + Marlin rifles = great hunting.

Measured to be about 2.027in. case length. Wouldn't you have to set the bullet out further to accommodate the smaller case and promote good accuracy? I may very well be missing something, because I am just getting set up for reloading, and am certainly not an expert but thought that the seating die would set the bullet too low in the shorter brass. If it will work alright and maintain decent accuracy I may keep it for target brass.

Finally got a look at the new SBL model and may have to bump that one up the list a bit...it shouldered great. :)

I'm reading alot of reports about tighter groups at 100 yds, yet is anyone getting accuracy out to the claimed 300yd with a 336 marlin? Hornady reports 300yd w/ 12in drop and 200yds w/ .5 in drop. So, is my 30-30 a long range rifle now?

Length, or seating depth of lever-action ammo is determined strictly by the placement of the crimp cannelure on the bullet.
The bullet must be crimped in the case for use in a tubular magazine, or recoil will beat all the bullets back inside the cases.

Hornady is selling the soft-tip bullet used in the 45-70 LeverEvolution ammo for reloading.

It has a crimp cannelure in the bullet.
It would load to the same length as factory ammo in the shorter case.

Anyway, it is way too short to have any relationship to the rifling, no matter how far out you seat it.

thought that the seating die would set the bullet too low in the shorter brass.
The seating die is adjustable in two ways.
The die body adjusts for how much crimp you want to put on the case.
The center seating stem adjusts for how deep you want to seat the bullet before crimping.

You adjust the seating depth to put the cannelure at the case mouth, and roll the crimp into the cannelure. Same as any other length case.
