Well I am getting tired of the BS where I shoot. Suffice to say infighting between members has caused compromises in rules that make me feel the club no longer cares about my rights.

Here is the problem: Many of the other clubs around here have very strict ranges, stricter than where I shoot. What I am looking for is a club that allows you to shoot any weapon that is legal, does not have a rapid fire ban (3 second rule), does not restrict range times to "RSO On Duty", and allows you to shoot any targets that are safe and aren't messy.

The thing that pushed me to make this post is a new rule regarding targets at my club that is pretty arbitrary (nothing to do with safety or maintenance) and was done solely to appease the anti-gun crowd in the name of "Public Image."

Maybe you should start up your own.

Land can be found for pretty cheap if you know wear to look.

Let me guess

You cant use things like B-27 Targets because they look like a man, much less a target that looks like an actual person.

Yup, that's it.

The fear is that if we shoot at silhouettes people might thing we are starting a militia. At least that was the reason given.

Land isn't exactly the only problem, I am guessing you have never tried to start a club. Assuming you get the land then you have to develop the range requiring usage of heavy equipment and various building supplies. Then you have to make sure the zoning laws permit shooting or get a bypass.

Starting your own range is no small feat, financially or otherwise.

Check out Livingston Gun Club in Brighton. Sounds like what you are looking for. Don't know how far away it is for you though.

This thread is relevant to my situation as well... I'm going to be in Detroit for a wedding in a couple weeks and I'm looking for a place to go shooting with my grandfather... Any advice or recommendations in that area that wouldn't be more of a hassle than it would be worth?

Fuzzy,

There are several indoor ranges in and around the Detroit area.

You can google up Double Action in Madison Heights, Target Sports in Royal Oak, Peters Gun Shop in Roseville, The Firing Line in Westland and Action Impact in Southfield.

Depending on where you will be, one of those should work for you.

As far as outdoor ranges, there is a DNR range in Brighton and another one in Pontiac. They have pretty restrictive range rules though.

lol Rhino I know what you mean... I lived in the lower east side of Detroit for 16 years before I wised up and moved south ;)

Trebor, thank you very much. Nothing wrong with indoor ranges.
