It just came to me. A kevlar (sp?) clipboard! Traffic stops are very dangerous and if the officer kept his ticket book on a bulletproof clipboard (full sized) he/she would have it right in the place it needs to be. They could train to react to a threat by placing the clipboard between the gun and themselves, while they drew their own weapon, a shoulder rig would save time.

Something to think about?

PS: don’t forget you heard it hear first

Dont you hate it when you think of something, only to find out that someone else beat you to it? Happens to me all the time.

They actually used them back in the 60's before bullet proof vests were widely issued. My dad had one and said it was a pain in the butt. Though I guess in a pinch it was better than nothing.

Kevlar would make for an interesting clipboard... punching holes in the paper with your pen oughta be fun! :D

Seriously, there are several out there that use materials such as polycarbonate; the upside: you can see thru them!

How is it that Homer Simpson says it…. Dooow!!!

I had an idea to put multi colored dots on the back, to confuse anyone who has dots on their sights. So now I'm working on tactical polka dotted BDU's :D

The more good ideas you develop and put out there, Horsesense, the more you'll get. That's just how it works. Keep it up!

{and yeah, it's happened to me, too}

Another Protection Device

I know of one other device that works, as told to me by a police officer that was personally involved in using it. It is a simple device available to every officer. What is it? the flashlight. The officer related that he had a motorist shoot at him as he approached, and the bullet was stopped in his flashlight. Was it luck? Yeah, but the statement posted that anything is better than nothing was certainly appropriate in his case. I met him at a pistol match where he said that he was going to learn to shoot better, since he didn't want to try it again. :)

Now some joker is going to come up with a plan to duct tape clipboards to his back and chest for more protection. (How many clipboards do you need to defeat .338 Lapua?)

I've actually participated in a training that included using objects such as protective clipboards as protection to put between you and a threat. One course in particular was called "street survival for emergency personnel" and was pretty good.

So not only is your kevlar clipboard idea already taken.........so is the training market.

Sorry............but at least you are thinking!

Was shooting at a range last year while some wildlife officers were practicing. We started talking about shooting (of course) and they told me of a drill they do where the officer is writing a ticket, and at the signal they have to slap the gun out of the dummys hand, step back while drawing and return fire. Dont know that they had bullet proof clipboards, though.

I know Clip Fu!!

OK, how about this-a clipboard with a Surefire built into the back and top, so the officer can have a light instantly available and still have a hand free for his pistol? The unit could have an LED for the topside for night-time ticket writing. Huh? Huh?

Don't forget that the black carbon fibre model should have weaver/pitcanny rail, forward pistol grip, and a drop-leg holster...
