All,
I assumed that the minimum load to run my M&P Pro and M&P CORE may be a bit too light for my wife's brand new M&P Ported and it seems so.
Been running 4.0 grains TiteGroup with RMR 124 grain plated through the non ported 5" and barely making power factor.
The new ported Smith shoots wonderfully and whereas the non ported will toss brass a few feet, the ported pistol drops it out several inches.
Ran a couple hundred through it and the slide on some of the rounds just didn't have the "oomph" to chamber the round completely and had a few stove pipes.
I wasn't surprised.
However, the same bullet with 4.3 gains of HP38/231 had no issues.
Appears that I need to load the rounds just a bit hotter for the ported barrell.

Porting does bleed off pressure more. Fast powder may not be the best for the ported Smith. But your not at max yet and you can bump it up.

However it should still run. I think you may need some break in on that recoil spring a little more? Leave that slide locked back over night and rack that slide a few hundred times and it should loosen up a little imo.

When running ported guns i like the slower powders and Autocomp was made for it. But the HP38/W231 should get it done.

Hope this helps.

Wreck,
You're right, I do need more rounds through it and break it in a bit more.
I'm going to go with HP38 for now, as Autocomp is still a bit difficult to find.
Upon reading more, it sounds as if loading a hotter round may actually reduce muzzle flip, as it jets the barrell downwards.
Once I find Autocomp I'll play with it as well.
I stand corrected...AutoComp is available.
Sounds as if I should not handload for it until I get AutoComp?

No need to wait until you get Autocomp (or a slower powder, WSF, CFE-P) Load shoot repeat.:)

These are some vels from my Springfield (5" not ported)

I would think another .3gr of Titegroup would put you somewhere around the vel of the 4.2 or 4.4 HP38 load.
Titegroup is faster (burn speed wise)so maybe the faster powder just dosen't work as well with the ports??
Hodgdon shows this for Titegroup with a 125gr Jacketed
125 GR. SIE FMJ Hodgdon Titegroup .355" 1.090" 4.1 1069 27,300 CUP 4.4 1136 30,600 CUP
and this with a 125gr lead
125 GR. LCN Hodgdon Titegroup .356" 1.125" 3.6 1002 22,900 CUP 4 1096 30,400 CUP
Maybe bump the Titegroup load up .1 or .2gr

No i would load hp38. Im like dudedog. You can get plenty of recoil to cycle. The Autocomp is good stuff for it though. Just not a necessity to run the gun.

I'm wanting to go with whatever powder is going to give me the best performance as far as reduced muzzle flip.
I'll have Autocomp tomorrow so I may compare that against the usual 4.3 grains of 231 that I have also shot extensively.

For right now, I'm going with 5.1 grains of AutoComp with 124 grain RMR plated round nose. OAL of 1.15.

I'm using Lee disks, and my options were 4.7, 5.1, 5.5.

4.7 was receiving mixed bag results online as far as functioning the gun, and 5.5 was towards the upper end.

Accuracy seems to be quite nice, and it's knocking down the steel at 30 yards handily.

I'll still play around with 4.3 grains of 231 for this pistol.

Thanks for everyone's input!
