Looking for just that - the lightest (aluminum) extra-high ring set, suitable for AR15/AR10, that is still of utmost zero-holding quality. Price not an issue. Thanks.
Go here http://www.tacticalprecision.com/ and look at their "X-High" aluminum HRT rings. These are very well made rings and will place the scope reticule even with or just above the front sight post.
The standard iron sights are nominally 1.375 high. I like a scope to be at least 1.5 high. A low power scope will image the front sight post. After about 3X you won't notice the post but it still degrades the image contrast right where you need it most. I have not found aluminum rings that are high enough to do this without using a riser.
Larue Tactical is another choice. They make a 1.5 high cam lock mount that is very solid and light weight however it costs $195.00.
JP Rifles has a unitized mount that is close to 1.5 high. They have a web site.
Leupold Weaver see-thru mounts; $20 at WallyWorld and they *work*. They position the scope at just the right height and mount solidly. I have a number of ARs (including several AR10s) that I have mounted optics using these rings, and they've been rock solid even thru a number of tumbles.
