The odd thing about LIL'GUN and 158 gr in the 357 mag is the very low pressure at which it's velocity is greater than that of H110/W296.
When I increase the powder charge above 18 gr with 158 gr LSWC to find the pressure signs of 357 mag at max pressure, the velocity keeps going up, but there are no pressure signs.
It is my intuition that there is something special about some bullet / powder combinations:
357 mag 158 gr LIL'GUN
9mm 124 gr Power Pistol
10mm 180 gr 800X
9x23mm 158 gr LONGSHOT
I think the 38 Super with LIL'GUN and 130 gr may give a hint to the phenomina. That load is the heaviest bullet in the Hodgdon 38 Super load data, yet it has the highest velocity. But when I increase the powder charge, the velocity goes down. I wrote Hodgdon and they responded, "Of course, the efficiency goes down."
Another clue is the Quickload manual, and it says it can't predict straight wall case cartridges well because sometimes not all the powder mixes and burns.
