Hello from Finland again! I for one see guns as tools primarily, and as any tool they have a funtional beauty.

I often look at the pictures of guns that I have downloaded, not just because I dream of living in a place where I could own some of them (wallet allowing), but because there is a certain beauty to them. Anybody into revolvers looking at say a Colt Navy, can but be in awe of it's functional beauty.

Threfore, and with the cunning plan to get pics of you lucky US gun owners, I here declare for all participants to list say ten (not a binding number, just list your favourites, but in moderation, say that you can list some reason for each pic) favourite beauty's. Rifle, Revolver, Semiauto, SMG, if it's a one man apparatus, let's hear of it!

Here are my humble and probably too fastly thought of candidates:

1. Colt Navy. Imho, the most beautiful cowboy gun, something about that barrell meeting the otherwize 1800 century's rounded features makes it my fav six shooter (or were they five). And now you can get working replica's, which take a multitude of modern cartiges! (try: www.cimarron-firearms.com).

2.The 'Centucky 50cal', I do not know the exact name of this gun, but it's of the kind that you see in the film 'The last Mohican' with Dainel Day Lewis, or in 'The Alamo' the new version, these were truly great guns, and I belive spurred the next candidate into existence some 20 years ago?

3. The Barret light 50. I saw a good pic of Royal Marines handling this amazing gun, and it's beautiful, deadly as anything, but beautiful...

4. The Lee Enfield. That ww1 style model where the barrel doesnt come out of the wooden grip/covers. It was just so functional, exellent gun as it was used for over 50years as the British army's rifle. And it made an exellent sniper rifle too.

5. The Mauser 'broomhandle'. Yep, this is the teutonic gun for me, it just looks so right, I love it!

6. The US ww2 M1(I hope that was right), carbine.
This is THE carbine for me, it looks beautiful, and like a perfect all rounder. I would love to have one on my dream farm/ranch...

7. The Browning Hi Power. I have been to one of the many threads dedicated to this seminal gun, that has made so many follow up guns, a true benchmark and beauty just like the second gun which is...

8. The AK 47/74. This gun, is beauty and the beast. Such deceptively beatiful curves and a good mix of metal and wood, but inside a truely genious of simpliciy and lethality, it's 'children' include the Israeli Galil and Finnish RK-62 systems, but the original is the most good looking!

9. The Sig-Sauer 226. If one is looking for functional beauty, then here it is, a great gun to shoot, and nowadays, looking like something almost from blade runner. But the new SAS carry models have gone 'retro' and feature feminine shapes and wood, a great gun anyway...

10. I fretted away for this one, and It's a tie between the Colt Python 357 in four inch barrel, and any model of the Browning Buckmark 22lr, which is very similar to the Ruger model 22lr. I need no words for these two do I???

Anyway, I know there is so many more I would have loved to list, but hey, must keep somekind of compactness for interests sake eh?

Hoping to hear from my friends in other countries!
And I'll chuck in a fiew good pics of any gun that make's me feel good just now, possibly an AR-15, as they are cool and should have made the list.

Yours truly: Mr Poundr :)

sounds funny when you say that. I guess alot of people in the US take for granted. We all are making a big commotion over an "assault" weapons band and such, even though alot of countries dont allow firearms at all. Reading something like what 17pndr really makes me think and realise how lucky I am.

Still, this whole AWB is a load of crap.

First of all, thanks for the Deer Hunters thoughtful words!

You might understand how frustrating it is as I have no criminal record, and yet, I cannot go and get the gun I shot probably thousands of times when I was fifteen years younger in the army! It just doesnt figure.

You guys are lucky. but If I ever get there, one of my musts, is buying an AR-15 from either Armalite or Panther, or Rock River or Kel Tec, that is one absolute dream of mine.

Do I understand that they want to ban these now?

And what about on of my favourites of all times the ww2 US carbine (is it an M1, or another name nowadays? Help please!)...

Also, I notice that you guys have signatures, those small texts that always come onto your messages end. I tried to find the place to place my own, but couldnt, any help, links???

Anyway, I'm glad to see good oppinions, and very glad that the CZ got there, I felt guilty of leaving it out, but as it's really a Hi Power, in a European mold, I thought 'just put the original, why is Browning so 'small' on handguns nowadays by the way??? It's a classic gun maker, one of the greatest, aside Colt, S&W, Enfield UK, Walther Germany, Izmash Russia ect...

By the way, any pictures of your fav guns would be greaaat!!! Here are some more of my favs! He, he... ;)

p.s. I was reminded, yep, the M-14 is just soooo, well, I think I put a picture of this great gun (wouldnt you like to see a good shoot off between the m-14 and the FNfal? That would be something, both are really complements to each other)! Any good FN fal pics or M-4s, or the good new Beretta's that are hitting the market. (say, what's that new rotating barrel that the Beretta storm and a couple of others have, where the barrell doesnt move with the recoil action)???

So many questions, and you US guys are the ones who usually know!

As I have asked so many questions I guess one more wont hurt...

What is the difference between a bantham shotgun and a normal one??? And are the moder semi auto shotguns as reliable as pump auto's (we had really mean ones in the army, but no sights! I never got that, even rudimentary ones would have improved my shots which always went high, but give me an rk, or anything with sites, and I was doing pretty good I must say, so any answers 'and pics'

Here's mine in no particular order, except #1 (and it varies depending on my mood):

1) FN FAL
2) 1911
3) Garand
4) 1873 Winchester
5) 1874 Sharps
6) Swede Mauser M96
7) Springfield Armory M1A
8) Colt SAA
9) Colt Python
10) Ruger Mk II

wouldnt you like to see a good shoot off between the m-14 and the FNfal? That would be something, both are really complements to each other

All ya gotta do is ask and stop by...you can shoot mine my FAL and M1A all you want. I make it over to Denmark all the time for work...the least you could do is stop by my place :)

So 17pndr, for your viewing pleasure (like I said, stop by and you can shoot any of these)

Kind of a cheaters way out, but there are so many guns that I think are cool that I don't own, it's to hard to pick favorites. At least 5 of the above guns would probably make an all time favorite list anyway, so I am not cheating that badly...

BTW: Can you tell I like Carbines?

*Well… at least some. D@mn I need a better job!
