I recently posted about my son (The Boy) picking a HS 21 S from my dad's stuff for his under supervision use.

I think his little sister might have gotten the better deal.

She listened to the characteristic of each choice and went with the JC Higgens RANGER, a nine shot .22 DA that appears to be a store branded (Sears?) High Standard Double Nine Durrango.

She liked the cowboy look and in one of the photos I included her little ring cap pistol from her earlier years.....just to make bannockburn happy.

Shortly after I got my RST4 a buddy convinced his dad that if I was "old enough" for a pistol so was he and he got a High Standard Double Nine. I rather liked his revolver and so was pleased to see one somewhat like it among Dad's stuff.

This actually came to him from the estate of his best buddy. The nice holster was so that buddy could carry the Ranger when on duty as a police auxilleryman. Small towns in the south in the 1960's really seem to have been like on a different planet. Many of the auxillerymen carried .22 revolvers and Dad himself carried an RG .22Magnum SA in a nice front break holster that likely cost more than the gun.

As I had to do a science fair project in school during this time I compared the permanent would channel of a RNL .38 Special from a Model 10 S&W 4 inch revolver ( the standard in my little town) with a 40 grain HP .22 LR in modeling clay. Hey, it was no less scientific or useful than anyone else's 1960's work. The volume of clay moved our of the way in the 6x6 clay blocks was actually no different. No one liked my suggestion that if we were going to keep arming our cops with the RNL .38 Special then we might as well arm them with cheaper .22 ammo. Got me a passing grade for the work anyway.

Initially The Gurl had some issue with the DA pull, but after showing her a diffent grip she announced she liked it. The single action pull is short and somewhat light.

Hopefully it can be cleaned up some. Someone tried to cover the drag lines on the cylinder with what appears to be a Sharpee ink pen at some point and you can see they are patches of rust on the barrel and cylinder that need some work.

In case you can not tell the grip medallion on the blastic grips is of a Suaro Cactus and steer skull. The grip frame and trigger guard( one piece) appear chromed or Nickeled and like the frame appears to be a zinc or aluminium alloy.......but American made!

Not sure why my pictures are showing up as thumb nails as I selected other wise.
