never heard of it thought this was going to be about people throwing sobe bottles out of thier tree stands lol

Yes, I'm talking about the stuff for cleaning brass. I got a 5qt bags. Any idea where to get the 25lb bag and what it costs? I didn't see it at Petco.

I didn't know they had 25# bags of the crushed walnut shell/lizard litter at PetSmart. I will look for it next time I go. I have used the 5# bag and it works great and doesn't get stuck in the cases. A 25# bag would be more economical.

Lizard Litter??

just how does one litter train a lizard??????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????:)

LIFE IS SHORT...........................................

i think mine came in quarts or cubic ft. dunno how many pounds it is...maybe 5-7?

I bought some, hearing on here and other forums that it did a good job. After even 8 hours in my midway,(FA), tumbler, the cases were no better than before tumbling. Covered with fine dust and dull.

I separated them from it, went back to my tried and true corn cob, after just 3 hours, clean and SHINY I may try it again with some dyer ,(used), sheets and some FA polish just to give a fair trial. It's a bit more aggressive as an abrasive, so it should clean corroded brass better.

Harbor freight has it for blasting media. Cheaper even than petsmart.

WW Grainger

I know WW Grainger sells the corn cop media, about $25 for fifty pounds, but they're discontinuing it so buy it while you can.

I'm pretty sure they sell walnut, too, though wouldn't guarantee it. Check 'em out. Don't pay big bucks for something you should be using in industrial quantities.

Just my experience, but I find the walnut does a good job of CLEANING brass, but not polishing per se. I usually do it two stage, I clean with walnut first, then polish with corncob and NuFinish car polish. The walnut is harder and tougher, and scrubs good, but the corncob is softer and polishes better.

What does the "fineness" have to do with the shine?

The finer the media, the more of it can surround the brass and make contact with it.

I buy my walnut media in 25 pound bags from the local feed store for $18.00. They sell it for chicken scratch.

I paid $13.00 for my last bag of Lizard Litter but can't remember the lbs,
however after adding nu-shine polish and a cut up dryer sheet works great
in my Dillon tumbler.

Just like a teenager, electric cattle prod when they mess up.

You have to add a capfull of mineral spirits, works wonders for eliminating the dust and I think it also helps with the cleaning. I run mine this way for a few hours and the brass comes out like new.....

The Petsmart brand in the 25# bags is in the bird department and listed as bird cage litter. (Kaytee brand) About 18 bucks a bag and is fine enough for even the 22 cal cases. A capful of mineral spirits works wonders. When it starts to get dark, run a torn up paper towel soaked in mineral spirits with the batch for an hour or so, gets the dust and crap out like a Mr. Clean magnet.

Screw Lizard Litter. Buy your walnut and corncob at a feed store, and get the smallest pieces possible. They all sell 25 lb. bags. The price per pound is much less than anywhere else.

I use 2/3 walnut and 1/3 corncob. It cleans AND polishes.

I throw in a ripped-up dryer sheet with each load. Those things suck up lots of dirt, extending the life of the media, and lots of dust, making breathing easier.

I also drizzle in about 2 tbsp of Nu-Finish every 4th or 5th load. It is cheap brass polish, and reduces friction in the press.

I hear about how cheap the walnut media is from the various pet stores, but seriously, how often do you guys replace your media? Especially if you use paper towels or used dryer sheets, your media lasts a long, long time.

Especially considering the other costs of our hobby, I just can't see tumbler media being that big of a deal to worry over.

My first time with case prep this weekend...Lyman tumbler with the PetCo Lizzard Litter.

$10 for 10 qt bag. Not bad.

As for size, I realize the smaller the media, the more surface area, but I had a good percentage of cases chunks of media really lodged in the flash hole. Newbie here and don't know what to expect.

What is the comparison on size, cleaning power, and/or problems with this brand or using "litter" ground walnut?
