i have the savage 110ba .338 lapua rifle..i have purchased several books several of lymans load books but everything i have does not show hardly any load info.
ive have some hornady 250g hpbt bullets and i have some 250g sierra hpbt bullets and im using retumbo powder.. i havent loaded anything yet because i cant find info. for what i have. hornady list there sp bullet. but thats all..i went on load data and bought a year of online data and there was not one load in there for either of these 2 bullets with retumbo powder..anything you guys can help me with i certainly would appreciate it...

The Second Edition Lee Reload Manual has a listing for 250 grain jacketed bullet using
H Retombo as start 90.0 and max as 98.0 (compressed load).
I do not reload 338 lapua but the Lee Manual has several listings from 160 grain barns solid to 300 grain jacketed.
Hope this helps

that is the manual i have as well..but on hodgdons site it gives the same data for a 250g sp pill..then on loaddata it gives a 250g pill hpbt at 98.0 to start and 95.5 max. load i dont intend on starting max load but thats 2.5 g. difference at max load which is a excessive amount of powder to both be at (max) load..
all the different info. im getting is why ive ask for help here..
thanks for your time and trouble..any and all help i get is greatly appreciated..
hope you have a blessed day.

I don't understand the problem I guess.

Hodgdon lists the 250 grain Hornady SP with Retumbo.
Seated 3.550" OAL.

90.0 START
98.0C MAX

If 98.0 is a Compressed load?
That means Retumbo is slow enough burning you can't get too much in the case.

BTW: All of the data in the Lee manual is copied from other bullet & powder manufactures old data.
Lee has no ballistics lab, and does no load testing.

i thought the same about 98.0 being compressed load..but im new and unsure..i have just got different data from different places stating different min. and max. loads. i just wanted to mke sure i had a good start point. my rifle may never have to have a max load. i want accuracy at 100 yards first. ive got a range about 45 minutes away with 400 yards. thats all i need for now and it want take a max load to go 400 yards. theres a range being built really close by to me with 1000 yards. when it comes if needed ill work a load up for it.
im gonna start with new lapua brass wlrm primers 90g. retumbo powder with a 250g smk pill with a 3.600 oal..i feel like hat will be a good place to get this show started..
Thanks for your time and help in this matter for me. it is greatly appreciated. if i can ever be of any assistance please dont hesitate to hollar..
hope you have a blessed day.

A couple of minutes on the net showed these two threads using Retumbo.

This has some quickload data with Retumbo ans the 250 Lapua Scenar. The poster also posted the same results with the 250 Sierra.

This has some information and post #2 confirms the maximum load for Retumbo (AR2225) for the 250 grain bullet.

From what I've seen in my Hornady #8 edition, they do not list Retumbo for their 250 grain bullet. They do show it for their 285 grain bullet.

For 250 grain bullets, you may be better off using H-1000. Retumbo seems better with the heavier bullets in the 338 Lapua, but Retumbo is useable with 250 grain bullets. I would take care approaching loads above 96 grains.

Thanks for the info. it is pointing me in the direction of max. load not actually being 98.0g of retumbo with a 250g pill. i know they are consevative but being new to loading i would rather err on the cautious side of things and hope that it will be a while before i ever need a max load. until i have everything worked out and know exactly whats goin on my local range is only 100 yards so i just need good accuracy at 100 yard for now..im gonna load for that. when i decide to drive 45 minutes again for the 400 yard range i will have a good idea of where i am nd probably the same lod that does good at 100 yards will do as well at 400 yards. it will be 1000 yards+ when i may need to step up on the charge as long as i havent seen any pressure signs getting there..
im gonna start with new lapua brass wlrm primers 90.0 g retumbo powder with 250g smk and oal of 3.600 ill work on getting closer to the lands after i get a good load working..
Thank you very much for your time and effort on the help with verifying things on my behalf. it is greatly appreciated.
hope you have a blessed day.
