Need load data for Gold Dot 180's in .40s&W using N-340 and HS-6... I Bought 1000 federal HST 180's from RMR and when I asked around I was told they should be loaded about the same as 180 gold dots. Problem is the only data I found on gold dots is for the 165 gr. version...

Should I just go by the hornady XTP loads which are easily findable ?

You can treat Gold Dots just like XTP's, just use a practical / safe work up and you'll be fine.

Also, you can check Speer's wed site and see if they have any data for those 180 GD's, they might?

In the mean time, I'll take a look through my books and see if I might have something.

Southernsorrow, I found some Speer data, but i don't see anything for N340, only HS6. I also found some data that Speer e-mailed me a few years ago, a pretty comprehensive table too.

Speer data

180 gr. Gold Dot
HS6 - 7.3 gr. - 8.2 gr.
OAL tested at - 1.120"

Hornady Data

180 gr. XTP
N340 - 4.4 gr. - 5.9 gr.
OAL tested at - 1.125"

Vihtavuori Data

180 gr. Speer HP - Note, this data is approved for Gold Dots
N340 - 5.5 gr. - 6.1 gr.
OAL tested at - 1.126"

This should give you a couple of safe options to work with.
Hope this helps

thanks guys I'ma load up a few in awhile and try em out tomorrow. got about 2lbs of n340 and 1 1-2 lbs hs-6 so whichever I choose of the 2 powders I should have enough for the 1000 rounds.
