Gentlemen,

Would anyone have data for IMR4227 used in 7.62NATO (.308 Winchester) for 180gr SPS (spire soft point jacketed) bullets? About 26-2800fps would be about where I would want to be. I cannot seem to find the data in .308win for that heavy of a bullet. Any help would be appreciated. I know it can be used.

IMR4227 isn't an appropriate choice for use in the 7.62x51 or .308 Win. It is too fast a powder for anything but small capacity rifle cases like the .22 Hornet or .30 carbine. It can also be used for magnum handgun loads.

2,600 fps is maximum velocity for a 180gr bullet out of the .308 Win and you'll have to work up to that carefully using a much slower rifle powder to do it with like Reloader 15, Win 760, H380 or IRM4064.

IMR4227...

I did a little checking. The reason I cannot find data is exactly as you stated. Looks like the 4227 was used alot on 222's, 221's, etc. I bought it because I had data for the M1 .30 Carbine and it worked well there too. I'll do some checking. Thanks. I did some further checking and found data with lower fps:
LoadID 7371
Bullet Remington SP
BulletWeight 180 grs
Powder IMR 4227
PowderWeight 27 grs
Primer Remington 9 1/2
Brass Make Remington
Barrel Length 23 (inches)
C.O.L 2.725 (inches)
Velocity 2110 fps
Group (inches by 3 shot at 100 yds)

Although not the premier choice, it would most likely work. Since the application is an unknown, I'll use caution.
