I've been loading for 55gr round but was looking at getting some heavier bullets. My load data that I have only has loads for 55 gr. Anyone have a load for a 77gr bullet?

If you are using Sierra bullets I have their manual with 77 grain load data. Let me know what powder you are using. Or call their toll free tech support at 1-800-223-8799

I have Varget and H322 on hand...do you have a load for any of those powders? If not I can buy a can of something else. Thanks.

What load book do you have that only lists 55gr bullets?

Have you checked hogdon.com for data?

I haven't used either of your powders so I'm afraid I can't share any experience with them. I do plan to try Varget sometime.

25.0gr of Varget with a 77gr SMK loaded to magazine length is a very accurate load in just about any AR15 I've ever shot. In fact 24.7gr and 25.3gr of Varget behind the same bullet shoot really well too. These are basically compressed loads. Here are targets showing 24.7gr, 25.0gr and 25.3gr of Varget with a 77gr SMK loaded to magazine length. All three 5-shot groups were shot at 100 yards prone off a bipod with the rounds fed from the magazine. Expect better results when single loading and shooting from a bench and rest.

What rifle, what's the barrel twist rate? Unless you have a 1-7 twist rate and at least an 18 inch barrel, you won't get them to stabilize.

Targets above were shot with a 1:8 barrel and I've seen some ARs with 1:9 barrels produce similar results. I agree that in general, 1:7 or 1:8 is the way to go though.

load

My AR has a 1-8 twist. It stabilizes 77 SMKs just fine.
My pet load is the Sierra 77 atop 24 grains of Reloader 15. I'll have to look up the OAL for the cartridges.

Layman 49TH ,77gr 2.260 OAL Varget; start 22.5gr to Max 25.0 gr which is a compressed load . No data for H322, H335 is 22.5 start to 25.0 max

24 - 24.2 of RL-15 or Varget are very standard HP loads - 25 is pushing IMNSHO.

1:8 twist is fine.

This is a twenty round group using Reloader-15 as for the charge weight refer to a manual with in the minimum to maximum range you’ll find a charge weight for your particular rifle that shoots good.
