Load testing at 50 yards

I do my load testing for accuracy at 100 yards as is the norm at least when all you have locally is 100 yard ranges. I have been working on loads for my 243 and 223 which both carry variable scopes. Last time at the range I took along the 7MM as I had not shot it in a while and was wondering what my 20+ year old hand loads where shooting. Well I think I can do better then what the old loads were shooting and want to work up something new but one problem I had was getting a consistent hold on the 100 yard target with the 4x scope. The cross hairs take up a lot of target as most of you know. What problems would I have testing accuracy at 50 yards? Wondering if the bullet might not to flying true by then? How about 75 yards? No I don't want to change the scope, never had a problem with the 4x being set on 9x or more when encountering an animal in heavy cover after messing around in the open and turning up the scope. Like my old Montana hunting buddy who Carry's a old Husqvarna 3006 always said "if I can see it I can kill it with my 4x, binoculars are used for seeing scopes are used for killing"

The 4 power works at 50 yds to shoot groups.

No use shooting groups at 100 if you can't aim precisely. Testing at 50 will give you a rough idea what the gun will do.

Either test your loads @50 yards or change the type of target you're using at 100 yards. I'm sure you can find a target that will work with the reticle on your scope.
