Hey all

I was wondering if I could use reloading data for 45 colt and use them in 454 casual cartridges ?

The same way you can use 38 special loads in a .357 cartridge

any comments ??

Really ? I though that was a no no since there are reports of reduced loads detonating instead of burning with some powders. I'd use low end starting Casull loads or invest in some .45 colt brass.

I think the reduce load problem is with slow ball powders primarily.

I use a lot of 45 colt loads in my 454 casull brass. One of my favorites is 11g of Universal over a Hornady 250g XTP HP. Enough pressure to make it work good, but not so much as to be overbearing recoil. 2400 is another good powder to use for less than maximum casull loads.

Using these methods, I don't have to worry about the crud ring which is a much discussed topic.

Have at it!

The cases are nearly identical (what 1/10 inch longer?) ... I don't see how you could get into any "trouble", as the max 45 colt loads are below those of 454.

the latest speer manual list reduced loads that are in the .45 colt power. So I don't see a problem
