Loading 9mm for XD9, COL ?

CZ guys have the same problem. For my CZ85 I had to drop cartridge OAL to 1.068-1.07" (my Lee dies are good for about .002" differentiation, it seems). I'm running that bullet under 5.5gr AA#5 and love it.

By comparison, my M&P would go all the way to 1.125", IIRC.

You noted they look like .380s - yep, that they do. But they work, and that's what counts. I posted this question about my CZ a couple weeks back and someone ran the 5.5gr of AA#5 through Quickload; it came back as well within the limits of safety, so I'm using it without any worry.

I have something like 1500 of the MB 125gr (Smallball) bullet to use, but I picked up a box of his new 115gr Parabellum to try, too.

So it sounds to me, a case gauge is a "rule of thumb gauge" and your gun is the final word gauge?

Yep the barrel is the final and only test needed.

TonyAngel says, "they still stick a little".

I'm sure TA is talking about "still sticking a little" when put in the barrel only and using his finger nail...NOT the extracter on an assembled gun!!

For safety, I seldom, if ever, put a live round into an assembled gun unless I'm at the range.

I do not want to be fiddling with an assembled gun, with a round stuck in the chamber, in my home!!

I just want to be clear on using just the BARREL!!!

Yeah, that's what I meant by they still stick a little, I'm tallking about using just the barrel and my fingernail. The funny this is that the longer rounds (1.1" COL) chambered just fine and seemed to shoot just fine, but I knew that there was that sticking thing and that pressures are probably running higher than they should. I reduced my COL to 1.085" and all is well. Funny thing is that the 5.5gr of AA No. 5 under the MBC Smallball is a pretty nice load. After popping a few rounds off this afternoon, I came home and loaded another 500 rounds. I think that load is a keeper.

Tony,it's good to hear you solve your problem,my XD will camber 1.092's with out fail.Same charge of 5.5 grns of #5.Clips the crono @ 890. with 175 lead lee tc boolits.

TonyAngel, thanks for keeping us updated

I just wanted to keep the barrel thing clear and not have someone use a GUN
for function testing.

Funny that you ended up at 1.085 OAL and I posted mine at 1.088.
I'll keep my powder and charge amount secret and only say it's different from yours.:D

Tony -
You think you feel bad. The first thing I did when I bought my CZ was to order 1000 Zero 124gr FPRN. Turned out they had to be loaded at 0.970" to chamber and then I had to work out a special load.

I finally ended up giving them to a buddy with a Glock. Boy was I ever steamed.

I'm glad that I have it worked out too. I really like this XD. It's a super good shooter. Those 16 rounds magazines seem almost bottomless, after having spent so much time with single stack 1911s. When I placed my last order with MBC is ordered 2K of each type of projectile that I use. I'm just finishing the first box of everything except 9mm. I'm breaking open the last box tomorrow. I had almost forgotten how much fun 9mm is, in handguns anyway. Not thrilled with the carbine.

I like those MBC projectiles too. NO leading and accurate. The range that I went to only goes to like 15 yards, but still, I was shooting free hand making one ragged hole in the target. I did discover that my rear sight wasn't centered and it was hitting to the left. I gotta tell you, those rear sights are not easy to adjust, but that's another story.

Thanks all,
Tony

It's always nice when it finally comes together. As much as I like the MBC "SmallBall" I know I'd switch the bullets before I got rid of my XD!
