Any suggestions will be appreciated?? I am shooting a Ruger #1 .204....good rifle, but not great in terms of accuracy. I'm shooting Hornady brass, Rem 7.5 BR primers, Sierra 32 gr BKs, with 28 gr of Benchmark. This load is the best I've been able to load, but my groups are still erratic and vary from a decent .75" to an unacceptable 2." Adjusting the seating depth has not made any difference. it seems like it will vary on any given day. The only accurizing I've done is adjusting the factory trigger. It is a decent trigger now, but not great. I am aware that Ruger #1s can be unpredictable and not always accurate. I ordered some 39 grs Sierra BKs to see if that will be any better. Do you all out there have any suggestions? Or should I conclude that I have one of those #1s that are just not great shooters? I would like to own a Kimber or Cooper, so maybe I should sell the #1 and buy one of those.

I have been having good luck with 32 and 40 grain VMAXs in my Savage 12 and 204 Ruger ARs. The 32 grain bullets work a bit better than the 40 grain. Sub 1" groups at 100 yards if I do my part.

Currently, I am using CFE223 powder but I have used H4895 with the 32 grain VMAX and Accurate 2230 with both. H4895 is difficult to get into the little case mouth.

Hope this helps.

I still have some experimentation to do with my #1, but so far, it likes 32gr. bullets in any make. I have some 36, 39 and 40gr to look at, also.

I use 8208 powder.

Typically any powder which shoots well in the 222 or 223 is good.

I have had goodluck with the 40 gr VMAX my savage 25 pours them into 1" all day. I like w748 and N140 which is not something you would shoot in 223. I would like to try 8208 but find its about the same as benchmark and 322 in my 222. Try the longer bullets I find most of the trouble is getting something to stabilize well. When you find something that works it will be plenty accurate.

Good Luck
