I'm looking for a load using imr4227 and 240gr plated xtreme to be shot from a marlin 1894. Bbl is 20" if I remember right.

I don't have a chrono so I'm looking to keep it around 1200 fps or so to keep the plated pills intact.

Anyone have load data or run this thru quick load to see where I need to be? I'm tired of making 10 rounds and guessing. Last load I tried was 15.5gr and it seemed too slow. I had to put 55clicks on the scope at 100yds to make poi the same as my hunting rounds.

I load 24 grs. of 4227 with a 240 JSP in my 94 carbine.
Accurate (and stout!) load that is cheaper to shoot than buying 265s or 300 gr. jacketed.

Have some plated 240s I have been meaning to try in the micro-groove myself. I intended to load them as plinkers with 9.0 grs. of 231 for a first test.
My best consistency and accuracy with 4227 in any of the large or magnum handgun cartridges
has always been with loads at or near maximum though.

I'll make a point of loading some of the plated 240s with 4227 to try.
I've figured that accuracy testing will tell me if I'm shoving the plated too hard.
Figure they will start to skip the shallow grooves like a regular lead bullet would.

Winter here, it might take a bit to post some accuracy tests with chronograph results, but I'll try to do so.

Don't know what quick load is, sorry.

What brand of plated bullet? I have driven Xtreme with 18.5 gr of AA#9 with good results out of my Rossi 92. No clue what the velocity is, but the recoil said it is a stout load.

Jt...Roger that. Thanks and hope to hear some positive feedback. Btw, I shoot the same load for deer but I use a 240gr xtp. Very accurate if I do my part.

Tendriver...shooting xtreme 240fp. Supposedly you can load these to 1500, but I figured 1200 is a safe place to start. I've got 7 lbs of 4227 and 1500 bullets to load for plinking. I'm trying my best not to use my unique I have stashed.

Ken Water's Pet Loads lists 22gr of IMR-4227 at 1565fps out of a 20" BLR and 23gr at 1606fps as a maximum (by his case expansion criterion), with 240gr jacketed bullets. These were developed as companion loads for a 7½ revolver and a 20" carbine.

I used 22.8 gr of IMR4227 under a Hornady 240gr XTP, great accuracy. One hole groups.
for a plated, I'd start at 20 and work my way up. I belive 23.1 was max according to lyman 49 with a jacketed 240gr HP.
