Hi good folks,
I'm looking for 240gr factory loads in the 1,050 to 1,150 fps range. Haven't had much luck. I guess some of these 29-3's had "issues" with heavy/stout loads. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks, John

The earlier M29 can't handle a steady diet of the heavy 300 grainers that the silhouette shooters were punishing them with (that's why the Endurance Package came about with the -3E), but they easily handle all other loads. You can use any load you please. Just use the heavy bullet loads conservatively.

John,

Any of the big 3 - Win/Rem/Federal should work fine.

Factory poop on the 240's is 1180 fps from a 6 1/2 in vented barrel.

Allowing for "mfg hype" and if you've got a shorter barrel, you should be right in the ballpark.

Generally, in factory ammo for the .44 Remington Magnum, I use American Eagle.

Good folks,
Thanks for your expert advice.:) I just didn't want to abuse this 29-3. I pick it up tomorrow.:D Best regards, John

John,
(no expert here - just a guy that's put a fair number of .44 loads downrange these last ~ 30 years)

Just to be clear - it's the big three - Winchester, Remington and Federal.

Some of the others, like Hornady, still load the 240gr .44 Remington Magnum @ close to original velocites.
(quick check - yep)

The Hornady 240 gr is loaded to 1350 fps. @ the muzzle. @ 50 yards, it's still doing what the big 3 do at the muzzle.

CCI/Speer 240 gr is > 1200 fps.

PMC is ~ 1400 fps.
