Hi

So looking through my inventory and at my budget...got a lot of 125 gr speer TNT's (great bullet for the $) and a lot of imr 4197...but...can't find much in the way of load data for this powder

I find "H" 4198 load data for 125 gr bullets on hodgdon website, and I know "imr" 4198 is a bit faster burning...and not the best tool in the tool shed for loading in 308 win, but its what I have.

I'm thinking of starting around 36 gr and working up, but wanted to see if anyone has tried any loads with imr 4198 in 308 win with a 125 gr bullet?

IMO and only my opinion both powders are so close you can safely use the lower end and middle data for H4198 for IMR4198 and do well. As long as you stay away from the max load data you will be safe. I come to this conclusion looking at the data doe both with a 110gr bullet and extrapolating for the 125gr bullet. I'm not telling you this is what you should do, it's only what I would do if that were the only powder I had for loading...

It's not the best way but IMO it's a way...

Thanks archangel,

The hodgdon website shows pressure loadings for the max at 49k I think? This is with h and not imr...but...like I say its just what I have on hand and I'd rather make some use of it (even if its not the best performer, it just for punching holes in paper)

Don,

I have checked the website but haven't called yet, that is a good idea...thanks for the responses
