Linn-Benton Community College went into lockdown this morning around 8AM. I was texting my friend as he was there, they pretty much were just locked in hiding in the corner away from the door. Apparently someone saw someone walking funny with a trench coat and thought they had something concealed. They contacted security and they locked down the campus. After over an hour they discovered the person, a CHL holder.

Police find man with gun at LBCC

Police have located a man reported to have weapons on the Linn-Benton County College this morning.

The man had a weapon and a concealed weapons permit, according to Albany police. Further details are not available.

The college went into lockdown at about 8 a.m. today after a report of a man on campus who was suspected of concealing weapons under a tan trenchcoat.

Albany police, the Linn County Sheriff’s Office and Oregon State Police responded and searched the campus.

See today’s paper for more details.

My friend said they just got escorted out by a guy that was about 5' 3" with what appeared to be an M-16, and he hoped that this guy was the best shot in Oregon because he basically looked like some mall ninja.

But I'm glad everything turned out to be ok. Just have one suggestion to the CHL holder, concealed means concealed: learn 2 conceal.

His choice of concealment garment left something to be desired... If you're going to lawfully carry, don't dress like someone from The Matrix :neener:

Exactly my thought. But its a risk everyone takes when they go into an area that is supposed to be gun free.

So, what kind of “weapon” did he have: rpg, sawed off .50BMG rifle, ebr, shotgun, handgun, pocket knife, ASP baton, brass knuckles, or maybe a really sharp pencil?

Jeez. I just followed the link, and the article says Mr. Trenchcoat did not have a weapon.

Albany, Or. 58 degrees, maybe chance of rain tomorrow.

Yea trench coat not a good choice today. Was it black or gumshoe grey? Black trench coat is a no-no. Grey or tans probably wouldn't get noticed as much.

EDIT: Looks like article got pulled

Update: Police find alleged LBCC gunman, with no gun, in a yoga class

A report of a gunman on the Linn Benton Community College campus this morning proved false. A student reported what was thought to be a man in a greenish or tan trenchcoat with a cylindrical object underneath it, said Capt. Eric Carter of the Albany Police Department.

Because of the recent shooting at Virginia Tech, "we took it seriously," he said. The police response included the Linn County Sheriff's office and Lebanon and Corvallis police. The campus was put into lockdown after the 8:50 a.m. report.

The suspect was located "in a yoga class, of all things," Carter said. He was not armed. The campus will remain closed until 4:30, according to the school web site.

Let me get this straight....

....they find the trenchcoated "gunman" in a Yoga class, verify that he ISN'T armed, and yet they still keep the campus on lockdown until 4:30pm?.... :scrutiny:

Whose in charge there--Chief Moose?...

Linn-Benton Community College was locked down this morning and then closed after a report that a man wearing a trenchcoat on campus might have guns.

Officers located the man with the trenchcoat and found he didn’t have any weapons, Albany Police Capt. Eric Carter said.

Police found the man, a 27-year-old student, in the gym in a yoga class. The man was cooperating with police and talking with detectives late this morning, Carter said.

A student called police at 8:46 a.m. after several students saw a man who appeared to be concealing something under his trenchcoat.
Something? Cell phone, I-Pod, PDA, Maybe just scratching his ****??
This is just too stupid on so many levels.

The campus is no longer locked down, they just closed campus until 4:30.

I went to school there and at OSU a few years ago. Oregon is one of the few places where CHL holders ARE exempt from the "no guns on school grounds" laws. Sounds like this guy didn't have a weapon anyway.

Good thing they locked down the school and escorted him out with their shiny new tacticool response team. You never know when a CHL holder might just snap and end a shooting rampage by a REAL criminal.

I think he was shipped to NY with no return address on the box.

...yoga mat.

see also: yoga mat bag.

Sorta looks like one of the old antitank rockets - somebody help me out here, the ones in the tubes that you slid the extension out to fire - if you sling 'em right.

it's why I'm always in condition yellow when I'm lifting in the gym. :barf:

College Campus, Cylindrical object? Poster, Artwork, Blueprint, or yoga mat.
Trenchcoat? Cool weather, possible rain.
There is too much panic and unfounded fear over ordinary objects.
So what if it was a gun, what proof is there that it is illegal or that he was planing to harm anyone. NONE.
The caller should be arrested for a false report.
The victim should get his A** kissed by all involved.
Public and profuse apologies are due.

I'm wondering when one of these overcautious people are going to be sued

Maybe it is time to start shoving back when our rights get spanked. At least tell them not to be such a ninny. Makes you wonder if these people would die of a heart attack going into a rural area (aside from OSU, that area is almost rural) and seeing people carry openly.
