So I, like an idiot, went out to shoot some slugs though my Mav. 88 today in 15 degree weather.
31 slugs in my front bead site flew out. I heard it hit the roof. I packed up and went home.
Upon returning I also noticed that my stock had loosened a little.

I was going to use either Loctite Blue #242 or save a couple bucks and use the Wheeler Engineering Thread Locker which came with the Wheeler Engineering Scope Mounting kit.

What kind of Loctite do you all recommend for securing the bead site?

Should I save some cash and use the Wheeler Thread Locker stuff?

Blue won't need heat to remove. Red will hold better.
If the stock screw is difficult to access I would use blue. The front bead could use a bit of super glue.

Sure not an idiot, sounds like fun to me. I'd use red or better on front sight. Not sure on stock.

I would recommend purple Loctite 222 for the front sight. It is low strength, but more than adequate for preventing the sight from unscrewing on its own. The 222 is specifically designed for 1/4" or smaller fasteners. I noticed that the Wheeler stuff is labeled AN222. I have no idea if that is intentional to suggest that it is the equivalent of the Loctite brand 222 or just circumstantial. The Blue Loctite 242 is adequate for the stock and will not require heat to remove. Remember that the only thing you're trying to do is to prevent it from unscrewing on its own, not semi permanently weld it in place. To ensure a good bond you must make sure that the parts are completely clean of any oil or other debris. Since the sight is probably brass or aluminum and the receiver is definitely aluminum Loctite primer should be used. The not ferrous parts will not cause the Loctite to initiate curing properly, rendering the assemble unsat.

Refer to BBBBill. IF the threads are stripped in the bead hole, see below.

If hole threads are stripped, red may not even keep it in place. View attachment 1051194

Tap it for the next size up (if 3-56, go to 5-40, if 5-40, go to 6-48, if 6-48 go to 8-40.) And as you install the sight, do as BBBBill says and put Loctite #222 (purple) in. I've never used the primer, but that might be a good idea.

Thanks for all the replies. I'm going to go with Loctite purple for the bead and hold off on the stock for now.

The threads were fine so I shouldn't have to use any tape or go to a larger thread size. In the summer I put about 300 rounds through the same barrel without a hitch. I believe the brass heated up and backed itself out of the barrel due to the temperature differential. I think it was around 15 degrees or colder when I was shooting.

I bought her last May so shes still covered under warranty. Hopefully Mossberg will send me a new bead for free otherwise I guess I'm stuck paying 18 bucks (the part plus shipping and handling) for a 6 dollar part.

ETA Just called Mossberg and told em what happened. They are sending me a new bead free of charge and recommended I use Loctite.

Damn. I need to buy a new gun for the warranty, most of the guns I have are from defunct companies. I *have* to pay 18$ for a 6$ part.

Purple comes with the Wheeler scope kit because it is the preferred strength to use on very small screws like most scope ring screws and beads in this case. I would hold off on using any for the stock for now. Just torque it to the proper level. My Google-fu says that is between 10-12 FOOT pounds for a Mossberg/Mav 88 stock bolt. If it comes loose again, then consider adding Loctite.
