Previously, I had, in my mind at least, defended the media's avoidance of lawful guns stopping crimes while showing the tragedies when they are not stopped as being down to looking for the biggest stories. Now, though, a shooting with 3 injured, none dead, at a community college in Houston is making national headlines. There's just no excuse for that other than a political agenda. Here's a comment I left on ABC's article and will send to editors at these outlets as well:

I have up until this point defended the media's picking of headlines about shootings as the expected and normal practice of finding stories that draw attention, especially when it comes to why they choose mass shootings to report but fail to report ones where lawful gun owners stopped a criminal before lives were lost.

However, this being reported on the national news here gives me no further room to defend them. It is becoming too obvious that they are talking a political agenda into consideration when choosing these stories so as to help push gun laws through Congress. Nobody died, it was isolated to a few people and likely over an argument or similar, and the suspect is in custody. The situation is already over, and there are no national-level consequences worthy of large scale news.

Sorry ABC, CNN, others - I stood up against pro-gun talk over media bias and tried to explain to them that you were looking for the biggest stories. It made sense at the time, but no longer. I cannot in good faith take that stand again.

Please do the same if you have some time.
