Hi -

I have an 1187 for clay targets.

I borrowed an old 1100 12ga. witha Hastings barrel and a 3x9 scope. 3 shots, 3 deer, 150-225 yards, no tracking. I'm starting to think I like this.

I'm tight on cash. I'm also wondering if I'm better off getting a Hastings barrel for the 1187 or buying a used 870 and getting a Hastings barrel for that.

Are the factory rifled barrels any good? I'm wanting to shoot 150-200 yards. Cantelever scope mount, sabots.

I'd also consider a bolt gun but don't know anyone with experience.

Thanks,
Mike P

You've already got the 11/87 and it's going to soak up a bunch more felt recoil than an 870, I'd go with that.

Hi - I'm conserned about accuarcy at 15-200+ yards

I'm hearing from local smith that he's generally getting better accuracy from 870's then 1100's then 11-87s... My current gun is good to 100 yards. I'm guessing the 11-87 cantelever will be fine but it's a lot of cash to spend with out consulting with folks that have odne it already!

ATB,
Mike P;)

Given that Hastings barrels are more expensive for 11-87's vs. 870s, the price difference is not THAT great, assuming you can get a good deal on a used 3" 870. With the 870, you can get a heavy barrel, too, if you want the best accuracy.

I think these guys have some of the best prices: http://www.shotgunsportsmagazine.co...ath=31&zenid=4a6359946da64ca1a84d5722eeac002d

Of course, the 870 will kick harder, but it stands to reason that it will be a bit more accurate, without all that stuff moving around under the barrel as you shoot it.:)
