Well, it's finally here! Went to our local range/shop to pick it up, funny story. My mom comes in, the guy recognizes us and goes back to get the gun. A guy who I guess hangs out there a lot asks what we're picking up. So, I tell him a Model 10. He seems interested, so we get to talking and whatnot. I hadn't really looked into the history of my Model 10, just wanted a shooter, but it would seem I have quite a catch. It's Pre-lock, hammer mounted firing pin, he thinks late-80's production. Serial number is CCN5XXX if anybody can find anything about it. I literally had the gun 15 seconds and he made a standing offer for a scoped .30-06 and $200. Of course i'm not gonna take him up on it, but it does feel good to have 3 shooters drooling over your hardware when you just wanted a good first gun. :D

Pics, as promised. And they work this time! Please forgive my (lack of) photography skills

Lone Star- He didn't say, but it doesn't matter. I'm keeping the Smith! Barring an unexpected felony conviction, I fully intend to still have this one when i'm 50 as it's my first gun.

You picked a great first gun. I own several model 10s and they are certainly among my faviorites. What did you get ? Barrel length, barrel type etc.
I don't know what to say about the trade offer. Seems like a big offer for a model 10. I had something similar happen to me when I got my first handgun. I was at a gunshow and my dad bought me a Ruger Standard Model .22 autoloader. We stopped at another booth to try and buy a second magazine and the guy offered me a huge amount for the gun. My dad paid $50 for it and I think the guy offered $200. It was one of the original models with the red grip madallions and all that.

This looks like a Nov 1998 manufacture date serial number. Model 10s are certainly good revolvers but I too am curious why someone would offer a scoped rifle AND $200 cash for it.
