Longest distance did you ever effectively shot with a 22 LR?

Anyone who thinks you can't shoot a 22lr at 100yds accurately, needs to think again. It just takes a good shooting 22lr to put 5 shots to where a dime will cover all of the shots. There's a small thumbtack above the group stuck in a piece of black cardboard to give you a better feel of how small the group is.

my two fav builds

The 10/22 has a Shilen Match Bbl. I butchered the stock myself and worked the trigger over. The best group I ever shot with this rifle measured .588" center to center for 5-shots at 100yds.
The Lil Red Marlin is a Youth Model 15YN that I built to teach kids with. It has a real affinity for both Eley Tenex and CCI CB Longs. I added Stainless Steel Pillar Blocks to it, worked over the trigger and added a over travel stop to it. I killed a Crow with it one morning at 200 measured yards witnessed by my Father.

Even without a tuner you can get decent groups at 100 meters.
With a tuner I suspect with no wind... you might be able to do sub-MOA at 200 meters.

20ga hulls are not a challenge at 100M for my Savage MKII, firing from prone with a 3-9 scope. Wish I had a longer range at home.

I routinely plink with my CZ 452 Lux at 200 yards.

Once you get used to it, it's amazing what you can hit with iron sights.

My CZ V22 upper on my AR will hit soda cans @ 130 yards with ease. I haven't really shot it past that but I'm confident it will shoot decent @ 175 yards or so.

I was at the range yesterday and got a little bored shooting so i found one of those shoot N see target at 100yds unused so i thouht i should try if i can be on paper using my Ruger markIII hunter with 6 7/8 barrel and i surprised my self becs out of maybe 30 shots atleast half was in the circle and one almost to the bullseye, there was a 3hot group that was very tight to each other too, I'm like thats not to shabby..i'll post pic of the target later..

Back in the early 1900s, formal prone .22 competition at 200 yards was a common event in small-bore matches. A good shooter with a good rifle can do quite well at that distance. I have a 1920 something book by Col. Crossman showing a photo of a 3.3 inch 10 shot group shot with a .22 from a machine rest at 200 yards. These guys weren't even shooting smokeless powder yet, but something termed 'lesmoke', mixture of smokeless and black. They considered it more accurate than the newly developed smokeless of the day. They also had yet to trust Remington's new noncorrosive primers. I would think we could do even better with today's rifles and powders.

The round bottom of a 55 gallon drum at about 350 yards with 10 degree downward angle. 4 out of 10 rounds.

Hit a running pheasant at 125yrds, with my 22/45 equipped with an Ultra dot.
A few windage and elevation shots, and got em after 5 shots.

With my Marlin 880SQ and Win. T22 ammo , I have killed blackbirds at 300 yards ---- I have a Shepherd scope on it that is matched to the
.22rf in ballistics ----- check out the scope here;
http://shepherdscopes.com/ --------------sighted in at 50yds. the .22rf has dropped almost 130" at 300 yards !!!!

Also , here is a link to a club I sometimes shoot at ----- again , 300 yards with only .22rf. allowed

I got a groundhog at 237 yards (according to google earth) with 60 grain subsonic Agulias. Took 2 sighters to get the holdover right. I still consider it a luck shot-

100 yards on trap clays is not problem. Shooting a TOZ-78, Rem Bulk and iron sights.
New 10/22 with bull barrel as being setup for 200 yards and I will give you a report soon.

The .22 LR is an excellent rifle to learn windage at relatively short ranges. ;)

22LR Long Range

Ive Killed Birds Out To 140, Rabbits At 185, and Coyotes at 145. Its A great Caliber for Funn. Shot For Years.

plinking? 200 yrds (effective == entertainment watching little puffs of dust as bullets impact a hillside from a full-auto)

99% inside 50 yrds though

150 yards with iron sights and CB longs. Were shooting at the remnants of an old washing machine someone had dumped on the range (ARGH! Damn literers! We clean up other people's trash on every range trip!), and were listening for the rounds hitting the metal. Was a WHOLE lot of adjustment for bullet drop, but it's doable.

Took the top off a prairie dog's head at 175 paces when I was a teenager. Winchester 22 pump with factory open sights.
We used the dogs for target practice back then.

225 yards with a 10/22 at a 55g. drum.
6 rounds rapid fire, stop and hear 6 rounds hit the drum.
You have about two secounds to fire the 6 before the first round hits the drum.

ive actually shot one at 300 yrd targets before, back when a 22 was the only rifle i owned. (70's)

i was shooting at a target that was about 3ft square, and hit it almost, if not every time. i would say my group was 2-2.5ft.

the rifle had a rimfire scope with a bullet drop compensator, and i had it dialed to max, i think it maxed at 200yds, with about a 5-6ft holdover.

since then, 100yds, and with a gm target barrel can usually get somewhere around 1-2moa.

it shoots pretty easy moa at 50, but funny things happen between 50 and 100 for a 22 rimfire (like a light breeze and temperature issues)

I got a lucky shot at about 115 yards. we were shootin clay pigeons that were placed on a burm. There was some debate on actual distance. I would say it was between 100 and 130 yards.
