Longest Distance Your Accurate with Your SKS

I donno what you class as accurate , but all of my sks will shoot " minute of coyote " out to 400 or so ( a rough quarter mile ) ,

Considering it has a shotgun pattern after about 125 yards.. id say not to many are reaching out and touching much beyond 150..:p

+1

I don't know about the 400 yards but I know my Yugo can go farther than I can see accurately. I can usually put it in 6" at 100 yards so I imagine I'd be able to hit a silouette 200-300 yards.

this sounds like a shooter issue, or someone that has never used/ shot an sks and is going with the things they hear at the range and read on forums from other unknowing individuals.

if you can't shoot beyond the potential of an sks, then there is no reason to complain, you need to fix yourself before you blame the rifle.

yeah and what do you mean by accurate? what position, what is the scenario, what do you consider accurate? shots that will signifigantly effect a target ie in the high center chest, or are we talking about a shoot n c bullseye?

One good day I shot three different SKS's and got 1.25" groups at 100 yards from a sand bag bench rest out of each of them. They were all stock new, out of the box. One Russian, two Chinese. I thought that was pretty darn good considering the triggers and the sights. Used Chinese ball ammo.

I've hit 12" steel plate at 280 yards during a rifle match. I didn't have the lowest time but I didn't have the highest either.

Zero your rifle and know its capabilities. Mine is a pretty solid 2.5MOA rifle with Yugo M67 ball.

I used use the bayonet as a monopod, I would use my left hand to put steady downward pressure onto the monopod. Then take steady aim at a ground hog, sometimes 200+ yards. First shot was well aimed toward the low side, the next 3 or 4 were as fast as I could squeeze them off. I'll bet I had a +50% success ratio going.

I believe some of the rounds skipped into the target. I know that’s not a match approved method, but it works.

I have a better hit:miss ratio with bowling pins out to 200-250 with mauser or mosin thats all.. forgive my hate for the 7.62x39 surplus ammo.

open sights paper plates [8"] 300 yards had 80+% hits with a sand bag rest. when i got the POS chinees scope sighted in i managed to do just as well.

Not all SKS'es are created equal

My Norinco paratrooper sks has a crooked chamber and is only good for suppressive fire at any range beyond 100yds. At 100yds groups are best measured in feet.

It took me the longest to figure out what was wrong but the other day I noticed the oblong nature of the shoulder on fired cases and had a EUREKA moment. Kinda ironic that it's quite likely I own one the most accurate 7.62x39's on the planet that sits in a safe next to an SKS that won't even keep all it's shots on paper

The SKS won't take any accuracy awards but if aimed at center of mass on man size target, it will hit the target. Not where you aimed but somewhere on the target. Can do what it was designed for pretty well. Think beyond 300 yds would be stretching that capability.

I've hit the target easily enough at 200 yards with the SKS. Thats the longest range I gotten to shoot it, which is pretty good with my funky eyesight and the default iron sights that came with the Yugo SKS. Things improved dramatically once the Tech-sight was put on though, but I work much better with peep sights.

I can hit 6" - 8" targets at 200 yard with my Russian. It beats the hell out of the AK at that distance. With a good reload it gets better.

I had one that was lucky to hit a paper plate at 75 yards from a rest. I don't think some of the claims of accurate sks rifles are very credible. But they are not held to a very high standard.
