Newbie here.
Can anyone recommend a good beginner firearm instructor they've used in the Austin Tx Area?

Thx,
Texas Chick

James Schubert in Rosanky is very good.v I don't have his number handy but if you call the gun shop in bastrop at 303-4867 they will have it.

www.krtraining.com - Karl and Penny offer a range of classes from the beginning to the high end.

A complete curriculum - very highly recommended by those who know them. Great guest instructors.

If you want to start from scratch and work your way up - take the Basic classes and then the AT sequence. There are also competition classes if you want to do so.

I thank all of you for taking time out to post.

After posting...another friend told me about The Blackstone Group http://www.blackstone-tx.com/welcome.html.
Their office is more centrally located in Austin. They're very nice people and were able to assist me with a very usable immediate personal safety plan for my particulars. I'd highly recommend their classes.

Thanks Again for all the suggestions!

MIB - don't look at the flashlight thingee or you will forget all your training.

:D

Anyway, I shoot with Aaron sometimes, he's a good guy.

Hope it works out for you. Once you get into, come out to the IDPA matches. He could clue you in.

Thanks, I'll remember that. MIB- :uhoh:  ...eyes avoid flashlight thingee... :D

; > Funny because the thing I don't remember is my previous fear addressing my particular situation.

My uncertainties are gone! The training stayed with me! ; >

I highly recommend The Blackstone Group as well. I took my CHL class through them and it was a great experience. They are a great group, very professional, and nice to deal with. I just can't wait until I can afford to take some more classes through them. ;)

Also the Austin Rifle Club offers some excellent education.

The web site is a bit out of date, but the Classes and Schedules are accurate. There is also a new class about to be offered specifically for women, but I see that has not been posted yet.

Check http://austinrifleclub.org and click on Classes.

Thanks again for all the replys. I've got another quick question..

My first firearms class is scheduled for later this month.
I normally do not wear glasses, but I've noticed vision changes recently.

My weak eye can see distance perfect, just a little blurry close up.Vision is perfect close up with my strong eye, but blurred for distances. My eye's works well together for every day vision. They work similar to bi-focals, so I don't needed correction for everyday functioning.

I'm not so sure about shooting. "...Strong eye can see close up perfect, but blurred at distances." ...should I consider getting glasses or a strong eye contact for taking the class?
Or is this something I should be concern with?
Thanks :)

Once you have this class under your belt, come train with us and learn how to fight with your pistol. We'll be hosted very close to you.
