I'm looking at getting a Glock 34 for practical shooting type events both indoors and outdoors.

I though about a SIG 229 but just can't get my hands around the grip.

Is there any other gun that I should consider as an alternative? This gun will never be carried.

I would stick with the Glock you can't go wrong there.
I would say I would be torn between a Glock or XD springfield.

Take a look at a thread of mine looking for comparisons between a G34 and a XD9 Tactical. A few good comments there....

Figure a striker-fired gun sounds like the best option for a gaming handgun.

I had a Glock 34 once upon a time. That pistol was easily the most accurate in my hands I've ever fired. Some people don't like the way Glocks point, but mine lined up perfectly for me, with a great 3.5" pull. The Glock was the only gun I've ever been able to successfully double tap with either.

I may have to get another.

G34, or the rare G17L, would serve nicely in this capacity! :)

I recently acquired a 35 in trade and after shooting decided not to sell it as originally planned. The long slide Glocks are nice shooting pistols. Easy to run fast, plenty accurate, and (of course) quite reliable. They really are not that big to carry either, roughly the size of a full sized 1911 but a lot less weight. I would say for gaming the 34 is an excellent and affordable choice.

I own a Glock 34 and it's big brother the Glock 35. Both are great guns especially when accuracy counts. They aren't carry guns but are great for plinking, IPSC / IDPA, camping ...

My very favorite thing about my Glock 34 is it's a great gun to put into the hands of new / novice shooters. When I take somebody out for the first time, I know that when they shoot the 34 that they will enjoy it, and the long site radius means they are more likely to hit the target than with my other pistols.

You mentioned Practical shooting events so I assume you are referring to USPSA, IDPA, etc.. While the Glock 34 is a great shooter and is well respected in these games, the Glock 35 may serve you a little better depending on which class/division you plan on shooting.

Good luck :)

I've had 2 G34s, and both were dead bang reliable, and very accurate. For IDPA Stock Service Pistol, they are hard to beat in my opinion. Very accurate, and great recoil characteristics.

I even carried mine, something which shocked most folks. I will have one again as soon as $$$ allows...

The G34/G35 is an excellent practical shooting platform. They're easily moddable, and easy to learn to shoot well. The longer sight radius does help for long distance shots as well.

You definitely can't go wrong with a G34.

I compete with my G34, love it. It's raised my game several points.

Watch GSSFOnline for an announcement this week, they're going to be running their special price sale again.

Local PD carries G 34 and G 35 on duty, 12 hour shifts not a problem.
Another local PD carries G 34 only, very good duty weapon.
Another local Special Response Team uses G 35 only.
