I'm looking to buy a 9mm polymer Kahr, Buds Guns has the PM9 priced $185 higher than the CW9. Is it really worth that much more? The stats on both guns are just about the same. Is there someone who has both and has ever compared them side by side? Thanks, Mike

I haven't compared them side by side, by I really like my CW-9. I'm a
handloader, so therefore I like the conventional rifling in order to shoot
hard cast L-SWC bullets thru it. The CW-9 also has pinned on sights;
not dovetailed in, but thats no big deal cuz I ain't going to be beating
or banging it around anyway~!:scrutiny:;):D

The PM9 is significantly smaller, has dovetail front sight making it easier to mount night sights, and polygonal rifling. If none of these matter to you, the CW9 is a good buy of a very small light single stack 9mm. The lack of polygonal rifling is a plus if you plan to shoot cast lead reloads ($70-80/1000 for components if you are a reloader).

My CW9 broke in the first 25 rounds, but since its return from Kahr its been close to flawless for the past 1200 or so rounds. The flaws (feed failures) are my fault, I want to see how long it'll go without cleaning, seems 400-600 depending on the ammo.

Get yourself that PM9!!! I have been holding out for a PM45 just because... well I have not quite justified the purchase yet but it looks like something I need :D

Go for the PM9. I have over 800 rounds through mine with no problems. My buddy bought a new one last week and put 225 various type rounds through his today with no malfunctions. Great pistols!

Holsters.

Except for the new 45s and the CW9, all Kahrs have the same cross-sectional profile and will therefore take the same holsters. If you buy a holster marked "MK9", you know your PM40 will fit. The CW9 lacks some of the longitudinal cuts on the slide that other models have, which means any "universal" Kahr holster may or may not fit, depending on whether a ridge was formed/boned into the holster material at that point.

This may or may not matter to you. It matters to me. My drawer-o-holsters is full enough already.

That said, $185 will certainly buy a nice custom holster, and then some.

I own both the p9 and the pm9 . ( the p is the cw with dovetail sights and no mim parts ) . If i could only own one i would shop for or make a covert 9 which is the pm sized butt and the full p sized slide . Not to recommend any " bubba " things but a p or cw can be a covert with a butt trim . If you like a full grip the pm/mk/covert is not for you tho since it has a 2 finger grip .

PM9

I own a PM9 and have shot the CW9. Recently, I shot them both during the same range session. Both are fine pistols. Obviously, there is a size difference between the two, but really, as far as a carry gun is concerned, both are nicely concealable. The CW9, in my opinion, is easier to shoot during an extended range session. Prior poster made an interesting comment about holsters though. If the difference was $300, I'd say go for the CW9. $185 difference makes the call a lot harder. Personally, I'm happy with my PM9. You'll be happy with either choice. Good luck.

PS - anyone - can these candle +P? I looked in the manual but couldn't find anything.

I plan on carrying it IWB at 2:30 and move to 3:00 when sitting or driving. I want the lightest, 100% reliable 9mm I can find. It will only get an extended breakin period and be used as a CCW, no range duty. I have other guns for the range, and I'm having trouble carrying heavier guns due to severe low back problems. In the winter I can carry a full sized 1911 with a set of Perry suspenders, but in the summer it's IWB under a loose shirt and no suspenders. Mike

Agreed--for IWB, the CW9. Paying $185 extra for a feature that you will not use (pocket carry size) is not sound fiscal policy.

That $185 will pay for a good holster, some break-in ammo and maybe some good carry ammo.

I am a PM9 owner, but I use mine for pocket carry, at which it excells.

big fan of the PM9 here.
I sugguest you check out one of FIST's Ultra Thin Kydex holsters. After going through many they make some I really like. Not real expensive either.

I thought I would pocket carry my PM9 more but I carry it IWB abobut 99.9% of the time.

I checked with Kahr's Customer service Department. All Kahr pistols are rated +P steady diet, and that is what is in my PM9. I have a cheep Uncle Mike's IWB and it is fine. I can not re-holster it in place, but that is the only sacrifice. I figure it will last a year. At $17, it is kind of like renting a holster with annual payments. ;)

BTW...over 900 rounds and it is 100% from NIB
