I just lucked into some brass and some Hornady 250gr XTP bullets.
Anyone have a favorite formula for this? I have no 45Colt loads as of yet, so I need a good starting point.

Thanks in advance....... :)

My own suggestion would be to pick up the Hornady (or other) manual instead of trusting any loads anyone gives you on the 'Net. My guess is that the stuff in the published manuals has been pretty rigorously checked.

Are you looking for "hot" loads, in something like a Freedom Arms revolver, a Ruger Redhawk, or a "standard" load in a "N" Smith?

I don't load hot loads, because I don't have any magnum revolvers in 45 LC.

For all my loads, 250 to 255 grain JHP, LRN, or LSWC, 8.0 to 8.5 grains Unique. Any case, any primer. Velocities will be between 800 fps to 875 fps.

This is an accurate load, a powerful load, but is not so overpowerful that it is still appropriate for a self defense load.

Don't use AA#9 if you plan for anything less than a magnum load. You'll get unburnt powder.
I did some loads with 6gr of Red Dot - that is supposed to be 'the' cowboy load, according to some old timers I know. I thought they were pretty mild.
