I am looking for a good place to buy some body armor online. Planning on using it at home. Any suggestions?

Mods:If there is a more appropriate section, sorry. I couldn't find a "Body Armor" section

Planning on using it at home.

Wearing it around the house?

Any way for you to try some on first? It's not as inobtrusive as you may think.

I picked up some used lightweight soft body armor recently, because the price was right. I probably wouldn't actually wear it unless I had to pull a Rambo.

Thinking:

Awakened by noises heard in house at night
grab weapon, put on armor, electronic hearing protection
hole up in bedroom, call 911, wait for police

How about one of these: http://www.uscav.com/ProductInfo.aspx?productid=16276#ratings

Quick specs: Tested to NIJ Level IIIA 9mm velocity. Offers complete fragmentation protection compliance with CO/PD-00-02G

Add some plates for a few hundred more bucks for a bit more protection. Its also molle compatable so you can mission orient it to whatever circumstances you may imagine......

Once its been properly fitted to you, it can be donned in less than 2 seconds. I have, use and train with this exact vest quite often. With SAPI plates, 8 loaded ar15 magazines, and a first aid kit its still quite comfortable and plenty easy to maneuver around in. It can be doffed and donned in a matter of seconds casually. It also has a instant release cord. You yank the cord and the vest will fall off your body incase you need to ditch your gear in a hurry, or the medics need to access your torso they can get the vest off in just a few seconds as well.

Really a good piece of furniture if you can afford it.

www.galls.com and www.streichers.com - Galls is nice, because they show you how to measure yourself at home to order a vest with the right dimensions for you. Both have their own label brand vests which are all made by Safariland, which is one of the largest bullet proof manufacturers out there. Safariland also known as Armor Holdings, makes several different brands of vests, and all are the same quality/stopping power threat level for threat level. Myself and 85% of the other police officers I know where vests by Safariland and they hold up great under continuous use!

One piece of advice - when storing your vest, lay it flat, don't hang it up. Hanging it up, will in most cases cause the bottom of the vest to start curling, and is impossible to straighten out again unless sent back to the manufacturer to be fixed.

I used the above bulletproofme.com company and was very satisfied - and I had spent weeks looking and investigating.
