I've decided to try out 3-gun competitons (going to watch one this saturday) and need a chest rig of some sort. I figure my old alice style system I used to use in paintball is a bit outdated.

From my research I've decided on the Eagle m4 chest rig from skdtac.com, but I can't decide on whether I want the 6 mag holder thats velcro or the 3 mag style one that has an open top and kydex retention.

Which one would best serve me for 3 gun and range play? I know they are pretty close the same thing, but I'd like to get the rig that gives me the best layout.

Sadly, the only place that I've found that has the 3 mag style one available for order is triadtactical.com and I've never done business with them, and a little hesitant about new websites.

Thanks for your help.

Here's the links:

Triad is awesome. Don't hesitate to order from them.

(I've been waiting on SKDTac to get in that 3 mag holder with the kydex for a while now...I didn't realize Triad stocked them also.)

I don't know how familiar you are with AR magazine pouches, but double mag pouches tend to get a bit bulky. A better recommendation would be for you to look into mag "shingles", which are single magazine pouches with elastic loop keepers over the top. They're easier to open and manipulate. They make double mag shingles also.

Eagle stuff is good quality, and I've used their stuff in the past. Blackhawk stuff is good quality, but overpriced and has caused ergonomic issues with my body. I would recommend using Eagle out of the two. If you DO decide on Eagle, go through Triad Tactical. They're great to deal with.

Right now, I currently run Mayflower. Mayflower stuff is built to be seriously heavy-duty and heavily-abused. Their products are designed to be a bit more "static" in configuration, but more modular for wearing as a chest rig, or mounting it up to an armor carrier using the Swift Clips. My Mayflower rig is much better quality than anything else I've run.

Grey Group sells Mayflower gear, and I get my stuff through them. They're excellent to deal with.

Well I went with the 6 mag eagle chest rig. It just seemed a little more versatile in how I could use it. Hopefully it will be as good as the reputation I've read on here.

The mayflower products looked good, but they were a little out of my price range.
