I am considering getting rid of my Keltec P3AT and upgrading calibers. I am torn between the Kahr 9mm and a J-frame sized revolver (seriously considering the Taurus Protector in .357). I carry the Keltec in a pocket holster and will from time to time have to carry whatever I choose the same way in the warmer months. The Kahr seems like it would lend itself to this type of carry and also IWB carry. I'm not so sure about the profile of a J-frame sized gun for this type of carry though. Any experience with either one of these guns or better ideas that you can give me will be appreciated.

I also carried a P3AT daily in the summer, and one day I walked into my local favorite shop and they had a like new Kahr K40 on the wall for $325.I asked to look at it,and when it hit my hand,it felt like they had used my hand as the mold for the grip,so I bought it.That was in April of this year, and it became my new summer carry.I only carried the P3AT 3 or 4 times all summer.I don't know how small a gun has to be for you in the summer, but I found I was able to adequately conceal the K40 anytime.Kahr is a good choice...I do on occasion carry other guns,Para Carry C6,and my Taurus PT745,but the Kahr just "seems" right more often...Good Luck...

Oh,I carry IWB MIB always, nothing else works for me...

The P11 feels good in my hand but I have never shot one. Another problem is the size, it is close to the Glock 26 which I have a severe fever for. A few of my friends that shoot have owned a 26 but get rid of them complaining that it just doesn't conceal like a J-frame. It gets a little confusing, but I would think that the cylinder of the J-frame would be harder to mask than the thickness of the 26. I have talked to three different people and they swear that they can conceal the Smiths better. I'm confused:banghead:

I carry either a Taurus 905 9 mm or a Smith scandium J frame in my pocket every day without any problem. Helps to have a good pocket holster, though, and I have been very pleased with Safariland's version.

Although I have done it before, I just feel better with a revolver in my pocket. A semi on my hip, but a revolver in my pocket. Too much critical "stuff" in that general vicinity to risk an accidental discharge with an auto....

If I understand correctly, the 905 is 1/2 in. shorter than the regular J's?

I considered a j-frame and a pm9 when I was looking for a CCW I could at least sometimes carry in my pocket. I shot both, and found them both shootable enough; but I also put them both in my pockets (with the gunshop owners's permission), and the J-frame won that contest hands down. The relatively 'tapered' ends made more of a difference than the bulge in the middle. I've carried it very often in that pocket over the last couple years; but it also carries very well in an OWB (I just hate IWB carry with any gun I've tried it with). Covers easily with an untucked t-shirt.

CZ Has a Nice Candidate

Today @ the USPSA 3-Gun Nationals, CZ had a display table in the Shooter Services tent. Got to see a really fine CZ model something or other that was in 9mm and had -- get this -- a 20 round clip. Nice.

I've been carrying a Scandium j-frame for a while

A DeSantis Nemesis pocket holster is a cheap, easy-to-use option. I just bought and am breaking in an Ed Hume front pocket holster that is very nice. Both work well for CCW.

I just put a bid in on a Kahr PM9. Been eyeballing them for a while--nice to have options, and if I don't like it I can always sell it...Or maybe the GF will like it. Also looking at a Para C6 and a Warthog....the Warthog fits in my front pocket, believe it or not.

I have both the j-frame and a PM9. I find that the PM9 is the better choice.
Very slim. Doesn't print as much.
Carries an extra round. Two extra rounds in the extended mag.
Smoother dao trigger.
Easier to reload.

I have a 3AT and recently picked up a PM9. I could not be happier. The PM9 is not that much bigger or heavier, and it is more enjoyable to shoot than the 3AT. It's also more reliable, at least in my experiece. 250 rds through the Kahr with zero problems. I had to put well over 200 in the 3AT to get it anywhere close to reliable, and it still hiccups unless I use Speer Gold Dots and nothing else. I'll keep both, but I have a feeling I'll be toting the Kahr a lot more.

If you can afford the Khar by all means get it. But dont overlook the J-frame and todays 38+p's are very powerfull. Come to think of it one of each would make a fine carry package.
