I am looking for a holster for IWB and OWB for my 65. I want a thin kydex IWB that rides real low so only the grip sticks out. I also would like to get something like a Tom Threepersons with a covered trigger guard.

I saw a photo of this gun on another thread. Apparently you replaced the barrel on a Model 65 with a .38 Special barrel from a Model 10 or Model 64?

I had an argument several months ago with a fellow who maintained that S&W barrels in .357 got special tempering that the non-magnum barrels didn't get and that a .38 barrel would be damaged by magnum pressures.

I have my doubts about this theory but I don't know for sure. Have you shot this gun much? If you have any problems let us know, OK?

Yep it is a 64 barrel and I have shot it about 300 rounds of mid speed 357s, 158 gr LSWC at about 1100 fps. It shoots great and a guy at S&W said it should work but they would not stand behind it or cover it if it had a problem. It does tend to shoot high with the faster ammo, I like it alot.

Brian,

You've got another Mod. 65 right?

What were your reasons for the modifications you made? Was it about weight, balance, looks, etc? I like it, just never thought about doing it.

I have a 3" 13 and this was a 3" 65 both are round grips and this has a set of Hogue bantams and the 13 has tyler T grip and the magnas in the pic.
Why, I like the 357 at about 1100 to 1200 fps and I also like the Mod 10 pencil barrel versions, So I found the barrel on S&W forum and then said why not??
The weight is lighter than a HB 3" and it moves faster and points quicker, but the recoil is more. Besides it just looks cool. My big debate is whether to black it by Birdsong or Bead Blast black chrome, or to have it engraved about class B coverage, just enough to make it a custom Bar-B-Q gun. It is my version of a K frame Mt Gun.
With my 13 3"

Muzzle view and my only regret with this so far is the fact that I did not have the front of the frame beveled to match a pencil barrel frame.

The wide Target Hammer shows up here, that fat checkered thing is so easy to draw back for a more accurate shot, WOW

Nifty revolver.
Try Blackhawk for a combination ballistic Nylon/Kydex inside waist holster that is comfortable and practical.
I don't have a catalog or webdress handy but you can find them on the search engine.

Since you have the skills to change the barrel might is suggest milling the top of the front sight and then cutting a slot in the top flat that you can then use replacable pinned or tension spring held front sights that are height regulated for the different ammunition you might use?
I would recommend again removing the barrel to do this and fixturing in a split bushing in the mill vise and using the highest speeds possible on your mill.
Carbide/titanium coated end mill at top speed if you can get it would be best.
S&W stainless cuts a bit gummy.

Thanks for the explanation, makes sense and looks good too.

I wish I had the skills to swap barrels, Well actually I do but no Shop. I have a degree as a Shop teacher with a bunch of metal working training and some in shop work but I have no shop. I would like to put a black blade on the front with a gold bead, but the original blade and the orange paint do well for me as it is.

The work was done by Mark Hartshorn of Pinnacle High performance, He can be found on the Moonclips.com web site, He Installed the barrel, cut a new forcing cone and made a nice tight barrel cylinder gap. He also cut the cylinder for moonclips.
