I'm hitting a bit of a brick wall. I live in eastern CT, and I can find several good ranges - some outdoor, some indoor, some both - that I can go to myself and have a grand time. I prefer an indoor range (don't really know why, but I do), however if I want to bring my 15-year-old son with me, it's a hassle.

One indoor range allows me to bring a guest 14-up who does not have a permit, but I need to have had my permit for more than a year (I just got it last week). No dice unless I want to pay $100/hr for a lesson with an instructor.

Another indoor range allows me to bring my son as long as he's over 16 (he turns 16 in July, so no dice at this moment).

Other indoor ranges welcome younger folks but limit you to .22lr. I want to use my own pistol which is 9mm, besides what fun is a pea shooter? No dice.

One of the only ranges I can find which has fewer restrictions is Blue Trail, but we can only fire the 9mm on the outdoor range, not indoors, so we won't be going in the winter...

Does anyone know of an indoor, year-round range where we both can go? I guess we can go to Wolf's after he turns 16 (unless I misread something), but where else?

So go there during the summer until your son turns 16, then go the one that allows him in when he is 16...

You might also look at finding a 4-H shooting sports group in your area. Other possibilities would include SCTP (Scholastic Clay Target Program) and FFA - both of these last ones are shotguns sports though. In any case, I'm glad to see you bringing up another generation of shooters!

He did mention wanting to try clays, this is a great idea!

Shows the clay target places in your state (You can also go to the home page and pick any other state)

Be forewarned - clay target shooting is VERY addictive, especially sporting clays, and can thus cost you a LOT of money - but also having a GREAT time. My favorite shooting pasttime
