Hey guys I'm looking for a muzzle brake that will fit my mini-14 series 181. I've found quite a few brakes but can't find any that say whether they fit the 181 series properly or not. Anyone know where I can find one?

Did you look at Accuracy Systems? Look about 2/3 of the way down the page and you'll see some muzzle brakes. I bought one from them but never got around to getting my barrel threaded (1/2"-28 threads IIRC) so it's still in the box. Every gunsmith I spoke to about threading the barrel didn't want to do it. The Mini barrel is hard to remove from the receiver.

:)

Uhh seems I forgot to mention I'm on a budget so I need something NOT from accuracy systems lol plus I don't want to have my barrel threaded.

+1 ... I've never seen any "get launched" but if I can't thread the muzzle brake on then I don't want it.

:)

Well since I don't have the rear sight anyway I think the one 1858 will be the direction I'm going since it replaces the front sigt.

lol I just hope that doesn't happen to me. I heard if you put lock-tite between the brake and the barrel it helps prevent this so we'll see.

You could always install the pin then silver solder it on ... that's a relatively low temp operation that any competent gunsmith could do for a nominal fee. If you're handy, you could do it yourself.

:)

Good idea. I'll have to look into that. I've never even tried silver soldering and I wouldn't want to start on with my mini so I'll more than likely be taking it to a gunsmith.

I have a 188 series with a John Masen brake on it. I cut the barrel down by 4 1/4", right where the machined index mark is on the barrel, then blind-pinned the brake there. It works great, but it is loud.

If you don't want to cut your barrel (the John Masen works without cutting, but it's sloppy), I would recommend having it threaded by GunDoc (greatwestgunsmithing.com), and use the MSTN Quiet Control Brake. If you don't want to add length to your barrel, have Gundoc cut it to 16", and then thread it. I think this would be a really nice settup on a Mini. Good Luck!
