Currently working on selling one of my .22s and after that I will obviously need a new rifle :) What i'm looking for is something fairly cheap and also cheap to shoot. It would mostly just be a fun gun and for occasionally hunting coyotes. The only idea I have so far is a sks. Always thought it would be a fun gun to have, plus fairly cheap ammo and reliable. What's a decent price for one? Any thoughts or other suggestions?

Looks like your selling the one thats cheap and cheap to shoot. Thought about a new lever gun? Winchester 94's can be had for pretty cheap money, and is far superior to any sks IMO. Ammo is decently cheap as well.

The only rifles I have now are .22s, will still have a couple just looking for something with a little more power. Never really been a fan of levers. Always thought a good savage bolt would be nice thinking that might be the way to go. Also my budget is under $400

A savage bolt action and scope can be had for around (maybe less) than $400. For coyote hunting, I would not get an SKS. It isn't accurate enough at longer ranges to compete with the Savage .223, and you can end up taking shots >400 yards. That is well out of SKS territory if you are trying to hit a coyote.

However, the SKS would be more fun than the savage at closer ranges (for most people)

What are everyones thoughts on the Axis? From what I've heard its fairly decent for a cheap rifle. Have a cheap 3-9x40 I could put on it for now. Would only be shooting out to about 200 yds max. Will probably run around here in the next couple weeks and try and handle one.

My thoughts? One of the best entry rifles on the market right now. For 200 yards it would work great

Well I stopped by Scheels after work today and they had a whole display of them. They were $329 with a Bushnell 3-9 scope already mounted. Not the nicest rifle I've ever handled but it fit me good and overall I liked it. Probably going to buy one after Christmas as a late present for myself. Then possibly get one of the $40 wally world bipods and still come in under my budget.
