It was within the past month. I think there was a link to a distributor.
The deal was for a Mosin Nagant and a 440 round spam can for $199 and change. I believe they also shipped for only $10.

Does anyone remember this thread or know the dealer I'm talking about? I think this is a pretty good deal and I wanted to purchase the package. Searching turned up nothing for me.

Any help is appreciated.
Thank you!

Thats too much for a 440 can...maybe it was for a case (2cans).

Anyway, the 7.62x54R is drying up fast. Panic buyers are going nuts every time the President opens his pie hole about the Ukraine debacle.

Edit: disregard my first comment. I see the $199 was for the rifle + ammo (doh!)

Chances are that deal is no longer available.

But, if still offered and rifle is in decent shape, I would go for it. Couple months ago from Big Five I bought a super nice 1939 MN Izhevsk 91/30 for $149.99, stopped by last week and price was $209.99 for one not nearly so nice as one I got.

Classic Arms and J&G still have reasonable prices, altho higher than what I paid in 2009 by $30-40. I have a great shooting 1929 Izhevsk. I haven't used up 440 rounds yet but I'm working on it.

Molot is a Russian company that is refurbishing Mosins and importing them to the USA.

Thanks.

How is their craftsmanship? Is there a specific reason their prices are lower? I know matching serial numbers help, but their price is lower than ones that are not matching. If thatmade any ssense whatsoever.

Refurbished is a bit of a stretch. The US does not allow importation of military rifles. Molot takes a Mosin that was arsenal refurbished in the 50's, wipes off the exterior cosmoline, laser etches a new model number, and the rifle magically becomes a hunting rifle legal to import. I don't know why they are cheaper than other rifles. It could be simply volume.

Some people like the Molot laser etching, others don't. It has changed over time in detail and location. Here are some examples:

aim surplus specifically and in gigantic letters calls them "b-grade" but, hey, it's $99.00.

I have a recent import Molot from another importer, and it is a very nice rifle, and worth twice what AIM is asking. Mine was a Tula arsenal, DDR with all matching numbers except the mag plate, which was force matched.

The Molots are slightly cheaper (well, for now) because they have lost some of their historical value in a modern re-arsenal by Molot, and they are often a mismatch of parts with varied serial numbers. A mismatched, cold war era, re-arsenal has some collector appeal whereas the Molots are generally snubbed by collectors.

IMO, if you just want a Mosin to shoot or hunt, spend the $99 and enjoy it. They won't get any cheaper, and you certainly won't find a modern rifle at that price.

I paid under $100 for all of my Mosins with the exception of rarer ones (like M44's).
I remember when a kid going to the movies for a dime, pop corn and a soda pop were 5 cents each.

But, that has nothing to do with what the current cost for same would be today.

Same for cheap milsurps from yester year.

Thanks.

Matching numbers mean little or nothing for refurb MN milsurps. Most all I have seen with matching numbers were forced, so for a collector, that just cheapens the rifles.
